vRS TDI Buying Advice

Featured Replies

As above folks. I'm in the market for a TDI vRS Octavia. Will be around an 06/07 car with between 35-50 miles.

Anything specific i should be looking for faults wise? The car will more than likely come from Skoda so i'll get a warranty but i'd like to know of any recalls etc that i should check the car has had.

Do these engines suffer with the cylinder heads problem, injectors etc with the Audi's/VW's did?

Getting really excited about owning another vRS. My last was a MK1 when they first came out:)

Thanks in advance.

I can't really give too much advice but what I can say is ensure the 26E6 campain has been carried out. This was an upgraded O2 pressure sensor and a different fuel map.

If the car is on a variable service regeme, as far as possible, ensure the correct grade of long life oil has been used.

DPF problems are relatively common on the PD engined vRS's especially if driven short distances only so don't be put off by a car with higher millage.

Try and get an 07 plate car if your budget allows as these were fitted with the 18" Zenith alloys, Jumbo box (with iPOD connectivity) and rear electric windows.

Apart from that, just the usual checks as per any other car. ;)

oh yea, think there might have been some updated camber adjustments to the back end but can't be sure.

If you have a look through the Octavia II topics on here you can get up to date with the PD injector saga so might be worth talking to the dealership about that one.

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago, I'm now the proud owner of one

The first thing I did was get on the phone to Skoda UK to get all four injectors and the wiring loom replaced for free.

Check out all the info here:

There are a few niggles with the 2.0 PD 170 engine but nothing serious. Spending a few hours browsing the first few pages of this forum will reveal plenty of useful tricks and tips specific to the vRS.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the info folks. I'm starting to get slightly concerned about the whole injector business :(

Does anyone know, if i end up buying private will Skoda still stand over any injector failures?

Thanks again

Yes they will.

They have replaced injectors on cars...

1) Out of warranty

2) Bought privately

3) With little or no Skoda service history

4) A mix or all of the above

Also if you can prove that the injectors were replaced previously and you incurred personal expense to fix them (including breakdown recovery) they have also been known to reimburse these costs too.

Well, deposit paid. Pick the car up on Sunday :D

Its going to be a looong week :giggle:

Remember to post some pictures of your pride and joy!

I've just purchased one too, its in the process of having a private plate transferred so will not have it for a week or so. picked up on the injector issue (through this forum) last week and called the dealer, apparently it had a new set of 4 only 12 months ago

out of interest, are they (the injectors) a direct replacement, and if so, will these have a rubbish shelf life too?

No, they are an improved design so should be more reliable. This is covered in more detail in the 'injector' thread but it is easily lost as it is now sooo long :giggle:
