mass flywheels

Featured Replies

hi all,i'm new round here has anyone replaced mass flywheel assy with a smf assy on a dsg octavia 1900 tdi.

Hi and welcome.

When i was in college we didt learn about DSG's as these were rather new but we did touch very lightly on automatics, very confusing bit of kit.

But iv always been lead to believe that it is not same set up as a manual (flywheel (dmf), clutch, pressure plate, release bearing) the flywheel is directly fixed to a torque converter.

Point being is the part even available?

From what I've seen and been let to believe, the SMF conversion is not available for the DSG box. Sorry!

Sorry because I had an SMF conversion to my 1.9PD manual over 10k miles ago, and it's still smoother, quieter and far more refined than it ever was with the factory DMF setup.

Do you think this would be wise path for the 2.0tdi mike?

as you know mine is on its way out and no doubt one day it will go again

thanks for all your replies,I,ve managed to locate a replacement smf for my mass flywheel set up for my dsg octavia 2 it is being fitted tomorrow so after much checking application and desiding weather to go for it,watch this space i will let you all know. !!

I am suprised you have found a SMF for DSG, very different set up to a manual car. Be interested to see that and see how the DSG lasts with it fitted and the added loading/vibration.

Uprated SMF Kits are avaialble for 1.9 and 2.0tdi

Most of you have the Valeo SMF kit fitted to the 1.9's which isnt an uprated kit so its basically standard but with a SMF instead of DMF

If anybody is interested where having a group buy on one of my forums (TDISport.com) for Southbend SILENT SMF kits for all cars with 02M,O2J and O2Q Gearboxes. available in stage1,2 and 3 kits

Are any of those for DSG though? Not by looking at those gearbox codes sadly.

Nah there for the Non-DSG Boxes

the problem with the Valeo kit is yes its smooth and quiet but it offers no extra power ie it handles the same as standard except the smf doesnt break

Sounds perfect to me, give me reliability over a few more bhp anyday

dont think you understood what i said

Valeo Kit- Exactly the same as a standard clutch set up but you have a SMF instead of a DMF, SMF is quiet because of the way its designed

Helix,Sachs kit- Uprated Clutch, Uprated Cover, Uprated SMF , This kit can be pushed to the limits and wont break

People are buying the Valeo kit as an uprated kit when its actually not, thats the point im trying to get across

Where exactly can you buy these Valeo kits? I've been looking for the Superb but can't seem to find any online dealer.

I will eventually get a remap but a standard kit should be able to handle the extra grunt

Call Valeo directly or contact somebody like TPS or another Parts place Euro car parts etc, or ask Skoda UK

as far as im aware though they only do it for the 1.9

+1 I spoke to my dealer and they don't relate to DSG as I thought mine was going but they did a factory reset of the box and it's been fine since.
