I kid you not! That is the interior of the new Peugeot 208. What where they thinking with the blue LED lights around the sunroof!?!?!?

Well MINIs have an interior ambient light package on which you can set different colours - five in total. So I would hope this Pug can do the same. I would also hope that you would be able to switch it OFF.

Just thinking, you could move between Pugs if there was one blue and one orange!

A lot of the new Mercs have internal ambiente lighting and it isn't really noticeable or bright but it does give you enough light in side the car to find keys in the centre console or if you're a passenger find your phone. Not enough to be distracting to the driver.

I've been in some BMWs and Audis with this and yes it does work a treat at night and is not distracting. But look at this picture I took in Frankfurt of the Mercedes CLS. Note the orange bit below the wood around the centre section:

It is very good when it is well hidden but you can see these lights side on!!!! Awfully slack detail in my book - especially from Mercedes. If you looked up from the footwell this light of course went all the way along the lip of the wood. Had this been in a KIA fair enough, but in a Merc?!?

Also has anyone noticed in the top sunroof picture that the new 208's dails are ABOVE the steering wheel?!?! You look OVER the steering wheel to see the dails. Weird. (And yes I know the Honda Civic partly does this as does things like the Scenic and Espace but never before with such a normal looking dail cluster that does not span the full width of the car somehow.)

Not only a Mercedes but on a CLS. That is a very expensive car. Although they cost about the same as an S Class, I'd just have the extra space of the S and it's less flashy than a CLS.

I wouldn't be surprised if more cars in the future have the instruments above the steering wheel.

The idea is to keep them more in peripheral vision which is safer.

Of course the ideal would be a heads up display ghosted onto the windscreen. Now that would be cool. How long for it to appear in a mainstream car?

Actually, reminds me of the old Rover SDI a bit. Pod stuck on the dash that was litteraly moved from right to left for our continental friends. And they used to stick an air vent in the hole where the steering column went.

My last car was an X Trail. The instruments were in the middle between the driver and the passenger. May sound odd but it worked fine and obviously suited both right and left hand drive.

I quite like that ! Saying that I have a bit of a thing for flashy lights... shame my disco lights won't work overseas :(.

The lights look recessed away from the drivers perspective, so they shouldn't be too bad. I'd have to see them in the flash at night to have a real opionion.

That said, having seen all the photos of the 208, it looks fat and bloated. Not interested at all, even in the GTi. I've had a few fast pugs in my time, yet i really dislike their modern cars :(

The 208 is in fact shorter than the 207 it replaces - though it still has the same wheelbase. AND unlike most new car updates the 208 also weighs less than the 207. Bloated? Nah.

At least it has lost that awful fish mouth all Pugs have had for years.
