Getting my cd/radio head unit replaced

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I picked up my new fabia (09 plate 1.4tdi 80bhp estate) a few weeks ago. The skoda garage noticed the radio reception wasnt quite right, so they ordered a new aerial. On fitting it, they noticed that the cabling was 'corroded' so ordered that in. then once that was all fitted I still didnt have a MW signal on the radio. Back in it went, and now they say the head unit is whats causing the problem and that this will be replaced.

My fabia has the 'dance' unit. I see that this is no longer fitted on the newer cars, so is it likely i'll get a wee cheeky upgrade to the new style ones or will i indeed get a replacement 'dance' unit?

The later Swing (RCD310) head unit uses an updated canbus and on some VAG models requires the canbus module upgrading in the car. Not sure if the Fabia does or not.

I have a spare Swing unit sat in the Garage as our new TSi had a Pioneer touch screen satnav / bluetooth unit fitted. Wife's HTP has the Dance unit fitted and I'd planned to swap it for the Swing but Skoda want to charge me £50 for the code to my own stereo. :(

I did the same with VW as I swapped out the head unit in my Passat. The dealers gave me the code for free. Not good Skoda.

So if you do get the later unit ask if they need to do anything to the canbus.

Cheers

Paddy, I too have the Dance in my Estate 1422cc PD TDI. Mine is a 2008 model owned from new. My cd head unit started acting up with certain cd's. They ordered a new Dance unit for me and it was replaced when it was serviced in July this year. It's about the only thing on the car that has needed any attention under warrranty aside from the boot badge discolouring which was also replaced. So it's my guess you will get a replacement Dance which is a brilliant set actually and they don't normally give any trouble.

Cheers for that guys! My boot badge is badly discoured too as was my previous fabias, wouldnt have thought they would cover that under warranty! Before I used to buy a replacement on eBay and just do it myself!

Good shout!

Yep, they did the badge under warranty.

My boot badge is also discoloured / de-laminating. Looks a bit scruffy. Out of warranty now so will they give me a new one?

Love my Fabia so want it to look the best.

Would a letter to Skoda HQ get a badge, do you think?
