Urgent Door Help Please!

Featured Replies

Hi there guys, im new to this forum, and i have just picked up a skoda fabia 1.2 estate up which is a cat c for £995 it has 48k on the clock and had a slight nock on the N/S front corner. denting wing, fornt edge of door, and corner of bumper.

today i sourced a replacement door in mint condition for £25 it was only the shell but it was all i needed, i removed everything from old door e.g. speaker, electric window, and locking mechanism....

removed old door, fitted new one, bolted it on, fitted the locking mechanism which fits onto the metal latch in the door shut of the vehicle, and the electric window.

removing the electric window the only way i could see to do it was to drill out the rivits so i have fitted the window glass and electric mechanism, and locked it in place with blocks to secure it overnight...

i then called it a day, sat in the vehicle, and shut the door... now i cant open it... i can pull the opening cable by hand inside or the handle outside but the door does not budge... its not completely shut as in its shut but not properly... so i have left it covered up the gap with blue masking tape and hoped for the best overnight...

does anyone have any tips on how to open the door and how to fix this proble? i thought it was a striaght swap like for like...

and also does anyone have any tips on fitting the electric window... should i re-rivit it back onto the ally panel behind the door card? then fit it? im really confused and any help/ pictures/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers Jack

The problem could be caused by fitting the cable too tight or loose in the outer handle. If the mechanism is accessible from the inside it may be possible to operate the lock directly.

sounds like u didnt fit the door correctly they r notorious to fit u have to get them exactly right. u will have to try and see if u can operate the latch mechanisum with a screw driver and or remove it i think. i have never done it on a skoda but did it several times to my old car (rover 25). i seem to remember in the end i had to go buy a new mechanisum and conecting rods from a breakers and get a friend to fit em properly.

hope this helps

sorry ment to say the other issue i had was that there was a plastic lug in the mechanisum its self and it had flipped its self round the wrong way causing the rods not to operate correctly. have a look at the mechanisum on a working door and make sure all is correct.

just dont do what i did.... leave the door locked and use the passengerside to get in and out. I accidently left my lights on as the warning buzzer doesnt operate from the passenger side.... 12 hours later i go out to find a flat battery so central locking wont work and cant open the doors with the key as the only one with a key hole was the door that didnt open!!!!
