DPF and Fuel Cleaners/Additives

Featured Replies

Will using a fuel cleaner/additive like Millers Diesel Power Plus cause havoc with the DPF???

I'm picking up my new vRS (PD) tomorrow and am keking myself after reading all this nightmare stuff about DPF.

I want to run some sort of cleaner through the first full tank to derv next week as i'm doing a 300 mile journey.

Is this safe to do?

It should be fine. Millers specifically changed the formulation of their diesel additive about 4 or 5 years ago so it would be compatible with DPFs.

Happy days. The cars only done 36k and it's early 08 so i'm guessing it's only been driven around town. Will be good to give it a good clean out from Belfast over to the Lake District

I used Millers Power Sport 4 (Diesel) in my previous car and it did it the world of good.

I'm going to try some Millers EcoMax in this one shortly.

Why do people worry about dpf ,had my 08 car from new never had any problem with dpf, apart from light came on once so. gave her a bit of a blast and fine again,

In any case I seem to recall the problem with earlier Millers diesel additive was not with the DPF itself, but with the additives some systems like the PSA/Ford DPF setup add automatically to the fuel tank each time you fill up. It was this stuff that the old formula Millers reacted badly with in the tank, and I think was causing clogging of the fuel system in some cases. No such problems with the Octavia as its DPFs have never used any type of automatic additive dosing system.

I've tried this stuff and I think the car doesn't regen as much. Once a Year Treatment

Can the 'regen' process be started via VAG.com?

Yes I have found the same- dpf light only on once in 3 weeks of town driving- usually comes on once a week

Car has been remapped which makes regen much more frequent

Yes, Regen can be done via VAGCOM ./ VCDS

I'm sure manufacturers of modern engines sleep better in their beds at night knowing that there are people out there who simply HAVE to mess with what they burn.
