Felicia heated rear window repair

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a few elements gone in the rear screen of my Felicia where the dog has damaged them so on these cold days I get clear top and bottom of the window but the middle stays fogged. I tried a product called "Wire Glue" but didn't get any improvement and the thick dark grey lumpy lines I ended up with were not a pretty sight.

Cleaned it off and tried a tube of "Silver Conductive Paint". I now have one additional bar near the screen centre working but still 5 bars unresponsive. It's still pretty unsightly - just light silver/white instead of dark grey. (I tried masking either side for a tidier job but tape doesn't want to stay on cold glass.)

As a last ditch I tried laying 5A fuse wire over the gaps and painting over this but still have five broken bars. I don't think the wire will stay in place for long anyway, it's too easy to catch it when cleaning the screen or the dog will brush it off if I don't.

Anyone had any other solutions to this that have worked? A scrapyard screen would probably be just as bad and these wonder products are all quite expensive especially when they don't work...

Thanks

Mitch

Do a decent job with the conductive paint using decent masking tape (there is a plastic type you can get that is very accurate and gives a very sharp edge). heat the glass before putting it on. Half an hour, job done. £10 spent.

I'll just stick the heater on ...doh :) A hairdrier would probably get it warm enough to kill the condensation while I mask it though. (I'm already using nail varnish remover to get the old wire glue off, it's looking a bit like a mobile beautician's in the boot.)

Where can I get the plastic masking tape? I've been using the regular paper tape. Is it a hardware/building supplies thing or motor factors?

Thanks

Thanks, I'm not sure I could fit it though. I'm better off than I was - there's one bar in the middle now, not just top and bottom.

Thanks

Mitch

In the past, I have repaired heated windows with a single strand from some speaker cable and soldered it over the gap with a 12w iron, and some pcb solder. I wouldn't want to be responsible for you cracking the screen though, just thought I'd mention it. You've reminded me that I have 2 strips to repair on the Favorit.

Russ.
