Wheel and Tyre Spec

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Is there a link for the 1.9 Classic showing all variables for wheel to tyre match? If not I seek info on this matter. If purchasing 18's , 17's or 16 inch alloys online for the car, what specs do I need to know? Same request for matching the tyres please? Lastly if using 18inch alloys do the tyres automatically come down one inch to a 17inch tyre?

Many thanks,

I found this document on a German site, but it's quite easy to work out what it means. It is listed by engine code, AWX for your car?

Columns are, Engine code, Key code, Tyre size, Rim size, Offset, Snowchains permitted (yes/no)

Hope it helps

Update : Anyone with a 07 Superb Classic 1.9 Tdi has two main wheel options for alloys either 16 or 17 inch. As for tyres with 16's its 205/45/R16 and with 17's its 225/45/R17.

As far as Im led to believe, the wheel size eg 16,17,18 inch should use the same size tyre.

Wow, that was an inaccurate statement 205/45 R16 or 225/45 R17 I think that the 16" rims should be fitted with 205/55 R16.

Im sorry, I was trying to interpret the German spec as outlined in the above PDF link....if you follow the link you will see that for the AWX spec engine ( mine ) it does state

16's as taking 205/45/R16 but is it possible that your advisory is also true and the 16 might also fit the 205/55 ?

I look forward to the definitive cutting edge Guru reply. Note: there are ( I think ) quite a few PDF pages on the AWX so some clarification maybe required?

I can't see 205/45 R16 listed for the AWX in the Superb (3U) section in the German spec. Options are 205/55 R16 or 225/45 R17.

Also, have a look inside your fuel filler flap for the types fitted.

Stephenb,

You are correct 205/55/R16 91W and 91Y for the 225/45/R17.

Well spotted, thank you,

fonaspin

NOTE: As for the 225/45/R17 on this car....do use them on the rear only as putting them on the front can cause a bad safety issue....the tyre rubs on the shoulder of the front arches just a hair but so stay cool and go with 115's on the front.
