fabia diesel poor starting

Featured Replies

i know this has probably been discussed before but can anyone shed light on a fabia 1.9 sdi diesel start problem.

hot or cold when left for 5 minutes it just cranks and cranks for 20 second then caughs into life.

there are no electronic faults stored but have been told that possibly injector seals could be the cause.

That does sound like there's an air leak somewhere. It could be in the low pressure lines to the pump rather than the HP line unions or injectors though.

I had a Xantia that was a bit like that, and the cause was an air leak into the LP line, which I found by getting my fingers dieselly when using the primer pump.

thats what i thought but have been unable to find any leaks or "perished" pipes in the low pressure system.

i had thought of fitting a none return valve just before the filter as that worked on a couple of xantias that i have dealt with.

If you've worked on a Xantia before, then the leak in mine was just and no more before the primer bulb so I'm not sure a non-return valve would have helped.

At least you know there's someone else with diesel experience thinking the same way on causes!

going to try seals and a valve .one of them is bound to fix it.
