Pairing with a Blackberry

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am trying to get a Blackberry Curve 8520 to pair, reliably with the Columbus in my Superb Elegance (5 month old).

Initial attempts (just trying the defaults) always failed to connect. I tried calling Skoda who, initially, said my phone was supported and it should work. They asked the firmware version of the phone (version 5) and then told me that my firmware was too new and only firmware 4 was supported!! End of conversation as far as Skoda were concerned.

Reading this forum I found the suggestion of turning off SIM Access Profile on the Blackberry then tried pairing and this time it work. Everything seemed fine able to dial from the phonebook, receive calls etc. I found that everytime the phone tried pair it asked if it was OK to pair with SKODA_BT unless I configured the SKODA_BT profile to silently accept the connection.

Things were short lived however. After pairing everytime I started the car for four or five times until one occassion the Columbus asked me, again, to put in the 4 x 4 digit code into the phone. I did this and the phone paired again - but this time I now had two SKODA_BT profiles in my phone!

Fine for a couple of more days and, once again, the Columbus asked me, again, to put in the 4 x 4 digit code into the phone. This time I was too slow in getting the Blackberry out to enter the code - the entry field had disappeared on the Blackbarry. I was now left with the "Enter the code into the phone" on the MFD screen and no way to get rid of it - even turning off the car, removed the key then turned back on again I still had the "Enter the code" on the MFD. I had to switch the car off and leave it off for several hours before it would clear the MFD screen. I then had to clear the pairings on the phone and start again - fine for a few days then back to square one.

I am considering giving up and going back to my blue tooth earpiece!!!

Any suggestions appreciated

I collected my new car last week and am in the throes of trying to pair my Blackberry 8520.

So far I have succeeded in pairing the Blackberry as Media (!) but not as a telephone. (I have been successful with my geriatric Nokia 6310i).

I have read the various threads in ICE but still can not find a definitive answer. Can the Blackberry 8520 be paired with Skoda BT? If so, how?

I'm happy with the Nokia 6310i, but have given up on the Blackberry 8520 for the time being.

The dealer feels that the Columbus firmware has not kept pace with the developments in the model of Blackberry I have, and that they probably can not talk to each other. He thinks that will be rectified at some point and when it is, he will upgrade the Columbus firmware foc.

My wifes Blackberry is paired to the Skoda BT in her Fabia

The dealer did it for her.

It will only pair with ONE phone at a time

Thanks for that. I did try unpairing the Nokia and pairing the Blackberry - acknowledging the point you make but , whilst the Blackberry would pair as a "device" it would not pair as a telephone.

So I scrubbed that and paired the Nokia. I very rarely use the phone on the move. It might be legal to use a hands free, but it is a distraction and the evidence is that it is not safe to do so - so it is for occasionally receiving calls and for urgent calls only - probably from a lay-by.
