12v hard wired supply into the interior

Featured Replies

Have you seen the Press Release I have copied in the WRGB thread? Mr Ree won't like it!!

I I think you're right Graham, but I'm keeping away from that topic for once.... or else I may say something I regret!! :wonder:

Thanks for such comprehensive instructions. However, is it not possible to simply get to the wire leading to the existing cigarette lighter? Then you could splice into that wire and take a lead off to a "new" cigarette lighter in the jumbo box; that would avoid having to extract the existing lighter and disturb its seating etc. I have found a wired cigarette lighter in Halfords - actually a device that plugs into the existing lighter with a cable leading to another lighter socket - I plan to cut off the cable where it leaves the plug, (so I have a cigarette lighter socket at the end of a cable) and tap that cable into the wire leading to the existing cigarette lighter.

Possible?

Bottom line is that I couldn't get enough slack in the loom to identify the lighter socket live feed without removing the socket first.

As mentioned by Llanigraham earlier, I would not recommend using a lighter socket for anything that needs a clean supply (eg two way radio), nor anything (as in my case) taking high power. I am running a multi-aspect light bar on the roof, which takes around 11A if everything is on at the same time. This is too much for a standard lighter plug/socket as the centre contact will overheat. Therefore I needed either a DIN plug/socket or a non-automotive 16A plug & socket - which I am using on a fly lead at present.

I am running a Pure Highway DAB radio - it comes with a 12V cigarette lighter connection as standard so I guess it should be okay in any socket
