New Today!

Finally got my new Greenline Estate (elegance trim level) in Amethyst. What a great vehicle it is!!

I've already been having fun setting bits and pieces up, and seem to be doing well so far - but with one problem.

The current speed display in the centre of the dash is in kph. I have made sure in the MFD set-up that the distance/consumption figures are miles etc but this is still in kph.

Is there a way to convert this to mph? I accept that I may just be very dim over this!

Cheers

Congrats on the new motor! This question has come up many times before - not possible to change via Maxidot its a requirement that a kph display is there.

It is a legal requirement that a MPH speedo also has a KPH display so it cant be changed

How odd given that we live in the UK.

The digital display in my old Renault was only in mph.

Ignore the other comments ............... as they are wrong :giggle:

Yes it can be changed, BUT you need someone with VCDS to do it (no a dealer will not change this)

Yep, discussed many times on here, VCDS is needed.

Congrats on the new arrival - enjoy!

nice car, (amazing colour)

You can blame the EU for the requirement to have a MPH and KPH read out, if the car has a digital readout then there will be a switch over facility available (it was a button on the side of the dash in my last 2 cars with digital readouts). If the car has a traditional dial speedo then it has to be marked up in MPH& KPH if the the dial is only marked up in MPH as in the Superb then it is a requirement to have an additional readout in KPH.

I would be careful about disabling it as this could well be an MOT failure on the first test under the new MOT requirements.

kensym, have you actually read the posts above or what the actual requirements regarding having a KPH display are?

It is only a requirement that the speedo is CAPABLE of indicating both MPH & KPH speeds, it doen not HAVE TO display both. In the UK we use MPH so hiding the KPH display makes sense, especially when it can be recalled easily in a few seconds when you take the car abroad.

This ONLY applies to maxidot equipped cars though, those without maxidot are stuck with the KPH display being visible.

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986

"Speedometers35.—(1) Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3), every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately. "

It has been mentioned many times before in the Octavial forum. Basically you need someone with VCDS to reset the car to Australia settings then you will have a big MPH in the maxidot display.

I think I'll just leave it - getting used to it now.

Had a nice run to Newcastle and back today - good mpg, certainly a lot better than my old scenic - and many more luxurious touches too.

KPH is the official (and the most used) unit of speed within EU :)

Just wonder when US people will start to use KPH, metres and litres instead of MPH, feet and gallons ;)
