leaving car

Featured Replies

hi guys was wondering if someone could help me. i work offshore and do a 3 week trip at a time. i have a vrs mk2 and when i leave it the night before i go i put into park and leave the hand brake off. Do i still need to get the misses to drive it forward to stop it seasing or is it ok to leave for 3 weeks without moving it.

your help would be great thanks.

its perfectly fine to leave for 3 weeks, no worries.

only think I would do, you already do! (leave the handbrake off...)

Normally all I would do is leave it in neutral/park and handbrake off. But with the winter coming and all the salt and crud on the roads you may still find that the brake seize. That said not sure what is worse, seized brakes or running the engine for very short periods. When I have had seized brakes, i just rock the car the break them free and make sure they are working as soon as I drive off, being careful with them for the first few miles. I was away for months at a time and didn't have anyone to regularly run the car though.

I wouldn't worry about 3 weeks, just park as normal. I used to leave my old vRS for sometimes 6 weeks and it would be fine.

3 weeks is fine. I've left cars in airport car parks fro that time, and the Leon was unused for about a month after I had an operation. Just leave in Park with the handbrake off.

Leave it parked as you would normally.

Ive just had mine on the drive for 4weeks without it moving as I was in Nepal.

Started up a treat. No issues with Handbrake, brake, gearbox etc.

Sons Audi a3 is parked on drive for 12 months, handbrake of it should be fine
