Help Needed CEL

Featured Replies

hi guys a bit of help needed if possible

Driving to work today my engine management light came on and the temp gauge dropped a notch below 90 but then went back up but the cel is still there as the light staying on

Does this sound like a temp sender problem ? I am gonna get it on the diagnostic sometime next week but thought someone might have had the same problem

cheers

Depending on fault code be either sender or thermostat, if it is the sender use genuine part only, buy cheap buy twice.

sounds like sender to me. although you can't rely on just a single drop of the needle. that single drop would kinda' rule out the thermostat too...

get a vagcom reading as it's either the sender, the thermostat or a wiring fault

Well I managed to get the car onto the diagnostics today and it has 3 codes, 2 stored and 1 current. I have cleared the codes to check if they come back but I get the feeling one of them will

Anyway any help is very much appreciated with these codes

Stored code 17705 charger throttle valve connection

Stored code 18010 voltage supply terminal 30

Current code 16795 secondary air supply system

This was the only 3 and from past experience 18010 can be thrown by any sender and have found them on most of my vag but the other 2 I have no idea

Please help guys

17705 - either throttle body needs cleanup, you're having a boost leak, or DV and/or N249 died.

18010 - low battery ? alternator problem ? corroded joint ? - knowing your temp gauge dropped i would inspect the wiring to the CTS (can be a dodgy connection), although i don't know if this sender would/could trigger the code...

16795 - something with the SAI gone wrong - not quite to be worried about

further details: fault codes

btw, 17705 usually throws the car into limp mode...

i have noticed the car does seem to hesitate just before the turbo kicks in but only if you applying the pedal slowly, if you just accelerate hard it does not do it

Here comes the joys of owning a vag, decided to remove the 249, sai and 112 valve anyway as i found some interesting threads about how easy it is, bought me a forge blanking plate and some resistors

cheers guys
