Would this work?!

Featured Replies

I am wanting to get a remap done on my fabia but it is the pd100 and I would like to go to shark but it's a bit of a mission and I don't want to break the bank.

I know someone with a ecu tat would be for sale of a vrs with a shark map already on it, I was wondering whether it would be possible to buy that ecu and plug it into my car or is it not that simple?

Would I need to change turbos, clutches etc?

Cheers Jay :)

Can of worms. The ECU wouldn't communicate with the other controllers or dash panel, which has the immobilizer on it.

sell the car and get a vRS :) then map it.

I doubt it. Mapped for different turbo from yours if it's off a vRS no doubt, so I can see it possibly breaking down in a pretty big way. Going to Shark shouldn't be a mission, they have a mobile guy in Manchester who would do it for you.

NO.

Your best off gettin shark or a similar company to map your car, least u know what ur getting but the vrs ecu wont work with ur car anyway

I can't afford the insurance.. I got my car at 17

You'd have to insure the changed ECU and power output anyway since it's a modification to your car (which the DVLA will know is a PD100). Otherwise you're a pikey who pushes the rest of our premiums up, and we would all hate you ;)

Not declaring mods is a mugs game IMO. The problem with mods is that they're an unknown quantity, if done badly then some mods can affect road safety (think naff fibreglass bodykits and the like, they crack and break and all sorts). Get a standard vRS and the insurers know it's built to Skoda/VW standards which are a lot higher than the chav element who will think nothing of attaching a bodykit with self tapping screws and cable ties, so even if the power output as standard is the same as your PD100 with a map, the insurance can still be lower. Either way, if you can't afford insurance on the map, you're even less likely to afford it with a whole new ECU IMO, plus the ECU will be for the wrong car so would be bad for your engine anyway. And if you can't afford to modify, don't modify. By driving a PD100 you're already better off that most 17 year olds I reckon, I could only just afford to run a 750cc Fiat Panda at your age :(

Ironically Gavin, I found a couple of insurers that refused to touch any Fabia/Octavia models at all, regardless of VW sensibilities!

To the OP - no. Cheaper in the long run to get a remap on your car, although not sure what the insurance firms would think of it!

Yeah, I used to be with Greenlight as well till I bought my vRS. Wouldn't even let me run out the last 2 months (I think) of the policy with them, so I just had to cancel. Annoying, as I've missed almost a year of no claims, but oh well :)
