L.E.D Flicker On Map Lights When.....

Featured Replies

Noticed something very strange today, was driving back home from work, down a bitch black road. And decided to clean my windows. When I hit the stalk my map lights and centre light flickered then when off pretty much instant its less than a half a second long. I Then noticed that if I put my wipers on they go on and off along with the wipers movements. They have all been changed for L.E.D lights and just wanted to know peoples thoughts on this. Seems mighty odd :o

Its due to the wipers and interior lights being connected to the same convenience unit. The LEDS only take a minute amount of power to light them.

I know there very efficent, is it harmless then?

Quick tip if the LEDs are staying on dimly due to a residual voltage from the convenience unit connect a small resistor (about 1K ohms) between the positive and negative of the led. The resistor will not affect the light output when it is on but when off it should be just enough to pull down the residual voltage below the level that actually lights the LED.

There you are guys you can put your LEDs back in now !

Mine never stayed on dim, they went out completely. But when i had the wipers on, they would flash for half a second.

Sorry didn't read your full post, still it might be worth trying as the resistor will 'bleed' away a low voltage spike.
