fabia 1.4 8v questions.....

Featured Replies

Hi All,

recently bought a cracking 02 plate fabia 1.4 8v but have two questions;

1) How do you remove the coil pack as I want to change the plugs?

2) The interior lights don't work from any of the doors and assuming this basic model had central locking, it doesn't work now. It has been suggested to me that the lights and the locking are a related issue?

Thanks in advance for any help, Old phart here trying to keep mobile (They weren't like this when I was a lad etc...)

1) To remove the coilpack - 2 bolts on the front of it - undo them, being careful - there's a metal plate that will fall off that secures it on so have your hand underneath.

2) Probably a fuse...

On a side note - the mpi's are pretty bomb proof and easy to work on. I've got one :D

Any more help, just pipe up.

And welcome.

No central locking on basic models (classic, silverline, blackline) as standard.

Interior light - also worth cleaning switch contacts. Only likely to help if pushing switch back and forth gets some kind of flicker though.

Also check when running it gets up to temp in reasonable time. Thermostat failures are common but easy to sort diy.

A shaky idle is a common concern for new owners but this is normal.

As above...also the rubber boots that fit on the end of the plugs can seperate from eveything and I think they have a small metal bit inside them.....not 100% certain about that.......anyway very easy to change plugs, do the aux belt, oil change etc etc...you don't have air con, ABS, or anything expensive bar the PAS sensor £120 Skoda OEM part and about 1hrs to fit (same fault on all Fabias...unless it's already been done!) ...oh yeah.....look at my link (just click on it)for info and pics on an engine flush/oil change that I did to a mates MPI.....all the seals are still nice a tight and it runs sweet now!..B)

I need to get around to sorting the timing chain out - if anyone has any guides or pictures of the process it'd be good...

...And if not, i'll crack on with documenting it when I do it.

It's in the Haynes......fairly simple.....but unless the engine has got high milage/or had poor oil etc in it then not worth the faf I think...unless it is making really bad noises and you've been told to get it done! :giggle:

And it's perfectly possible to go a bit div on one.

Mine rattles, got one hell of a wobbly idle but I love it.

Thanks for all the help people and sorry for the late reply, the old pc has been playing up.

the lights sorted themselves out somehow, best not tamper now they're working.... Coil pack came off no problems. Thanks again.
