Do Skoda dealers remap their demo cars?

Featured Replies

Just wondering. Obviously all engines loosen up with mileage, although I've never found it to feel like more than a handful of horsepower, and I don't think there is anything wrong with the wife's one, but it doesn't feel as fast as the demonstrator did. 3rd gear feels a bit too long geared, and there isn't really much in the way of torque.

Don't really feel excited about driving her car again, will see how it loosens up though. Was really looking forward to it after the demo test drive, the rest of the car is very accomplished for the money, but the performance leaves me cold, whereas our Puma doesn't, although that is more chuckable, gives more feedback, small car feel etc.

Company car, so tricky to remap, could be insurance implications etc.

If they Do I am Happy as my Octy vRS is an Exdemo

Surely they can't remap them under the Trade Descriptions Act. If you bought a car after a test drive you intend to buy a car exactly like that one so that's what you've got to test.

I know Gordon Lamb used to map there demo's. JBS did a mobile service for them. I know at least 1 Octavia RS and 1 Fabia RS was done, and a 130 TDI octy i think.

How much mileage have you done?

Skoda themselves do not map them, apart from the autocar feature

With the demo cars its upto the dealer what they do with them. I know some garages do ;)

I know for a fact my local skoda garage has a demo furby Vrs with a superchip fitted...you are told this pre demo...

Just see how it goes...

Can't see that they would as it would leave them open to lawsuits from buyers who were misled etc.

Although, as an Octy owner I don't have any real knowledge, the majority of people on here do seem to indicate that the Fabia RS does seem to have quite a dramatic change once it is fully run in. However, your comments on torque are surprising since compared to the Puma that should still feel pretty chunky

I would like to suggest that a Furby would take longer to "run-in" due to the lower revs?

The Puma is quite short geared, this of course multiplies the torque, plus it only weighs just over a ton, torque and power to weight is not far off the Octavia.

Not big miles on the vRS yet so we'll see.

The demo cars have been 'run in' the hard way, i.e. trashed ;) So they will have loosened up a lot quicker. Only catch is they'll probably have more engine wear in the long term.

Mine will be run in 'by the book' - it will have a pretty used life after that anyway, and as I intend to put some serious miles on it I don't really want to risk it.

Warming the oil first, and then building up load after the first 10 or 15 miles has always worked on my engines. They make power, don't use oil, don't have excessive blowby, and on strip down when appropriate have had a nice honing pattern without bore glazing. I'm a believer in early piston ring seal from short bursts of load and controlled engine speeds, although it is controversial... http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Riding & Co had a REVO mapped vRS estate when I bought mine 18 months ago. They then procceeded to tell me that if I got my vRS mapped it would void the warrenty!

I should have told them where to stick the car!

Don't think our dealer would have even considered this.

They have enough demand/supply problems as it is!

Don't think they really need anything thrown in to their sales pitch. They will let you have a go in anything and don't use any pressurised sales or chipped cars .They know they are sitting on a good product.

All the above is if I understand the thread. ;)

The demo car I drove did feel a lot quicker than the one we got

My local dealer does chip demos, the furby i test drove was chipped. They even offered to chip mine using a mobile service and they also claim no problem with waranty.

I bought an ex-demo with 4000 miles. Had the .4 bar Revo program remap along with miltek SS exhaust+high flow cat, k&n filter, uprated fuel pump, Forge DV all fitted by JBS on behalf of a dealer who shall remain nameless. I test drove the 'standard' model but I was sold when I drove the 'demo. All under warranty too

Mine was an ex-demo and i discovered it had been superchipped when i went to Jabbasport to re-map it. The salesman must have forgotten to tell me. Was gonna complain but never did, if i'd had any warranty problems i would have but i didn't

Which warranty are all these dealer-modified cars coming under? It breaches Skoda UK's warranty conditions...

Rob.

My dealer is has got the franchise for supachips aswell. Maybe been a used car changes the rules.

Pretty sure Superchips provide a warranty with their product - so if the dealer claimed any Superchips-related problems against that rather than the Skoda UK warranty, that would be all above-board...

You wern't insured on the car then.

I'd be having stern words with the saleman :thumbdwn:

i'd be rejecting the vehicle.. superchips are possibly the worst tuning product since the ecotek valve....:D

In hindsight then yes, but it was 6 months down the line and i'd had no problems with the car. TBH couldn't really be arsed to go kicking up a fuss, more important things in life to do

I got the dealer to type an 'additional' warranty that simply states that all engine modifications carried out by or on behalf of ****** **** are covered by the 3 yr standard manufacturer warranty and should any warranty issue arise as a result of the modifications to the engine then they should contact ****** **** for further details. - very rough translation coz I'm at work and cant remember the exact wording :P

Even if Skoda won't honour it then the skoda dealer who I bought the car from would have to honour it and not only replace any standard parts but the modified parts too imo. This was a condition of me buying the car in the first place as :

a: It was modified

b: It was used (albeit by the manager of the dealer)

c: It was a 'demo'

I got the remaining 2.5 yrs of the manufacturer warranty plus an extra 6 months of dealer warranty at the end of that so in short I got a modified car with standard (zenons, ESP) and non-standard extras (revo 4 bar, Forge DV, High flow cat, miltek SS exhaust (full), K&n,) all covered under warranty for the same price as a standard new car.

I have made a couple of claims under warranty so far and have encountered no problems whatsoever.
