My dad has just bought one of these and we knew you didn't get a spare wheel, but you don't get a Jack and wheel brace either.Do any other car manufactures do this, not supply the jack and brace?..

Why would they supply a jack and a wheelbrace when you don't have a sparewheel?

I have been told you have to jack your car up and then inject the foam, don't know how true that is.We have a new audi tt with foam, jack and brace..My dad was told he can buy them if he wants...

Don't think you get them with a new Skoda unless you add as an option.

I remember they had a jack and brace in the new fabia when my dad was looking at one and the wheel was an option..

You don't get them in the Yeti without the spare.

Yet, oddly, I get a brace and jack in my RX-8 which doesn't have a spare!

Seems to be the way they all do it. No spare wheel = no jack or wheel brace either.

My Suzuki Swift Sport didn't have a spare wheel (nowhere to put one!) and it had only a can of foam and a 12v compressor in the boot.

The idea of removing the spare wheel from the standard specification is to reduce weight and CO2 emissions.

The jack and wheelbrace are fairly heavy so will also be removed if not needed.

Slightly off topic I know, but I was in a Suzuki dealership today and took the opportunity of having a look at one.

What a crackin' looking little car that is now!!

Dunno what it's like to drive mind.

Just been on the website and nothing mentioned about having a spare wheel or can of foam as an accessory.

I had a feeling that was the reason why car manufactures don't supply a spare. Obviously in some cars (ie Bini) there is no space for a spare, although the original mini had one.

However they forget Moose only fixes simple punctures, it can't fix sidewall damage, blowouts, rim leaks or wheel damage, etc.

We did purchase a space saver for the wifes audi tt,but yesterday morning woke up to find one of the tyres on the audi was flat.Pumped it up just to check that it was a puncture, which it was and i was able to take the wheel off because we had the jack and brace and took it to get repaired for £15.That to me is the benefit of having a jack, god knows how much it would of been to replace the foam,i gather a guess more than £15.Luckily i was able to throw the wheel into my car to take to get fixed,i know people might not be able to do that..

Does using the foam not render the tyre U/S?

My son served his time with Jaguar and they did not repair tyres if foam had been used making for a very expensive short term fix.

I have also heard that too.Not to sure how true it is..

I think it depends on the repairer and possibly the type of foam. The can that was supplied with the Swift Sport suggested it could be cleaned out so the tyre could be repaired.

Of course, as stated above, it will only work for punctures in the tread, anything in the sidewall and it's no good at all. Then you are faced with calling out a recovery truck to get you back home and then the car is useless until you source a new tyre.

If the hole is too big, the foam won't seal. If it's a nail or screw in the tread, DO NOT remove it, the foam will seal around it and it will then get you home.

The foam with my Mazda states that use will render the tyre as dead. . .

Many years ago (circa 2000) I used a foam repair can I bought in France to repair a puncture on the car I had at the time. It had a spare, jack etc but I was in a hurry. After a bit I took it to one of the big tyre chains to get a proper repair. I tried to explain that I'd used foam but as you couldn't buy them here then and the chap changing the wheel lacked a bit in the communications skills dept I don't think they took it on board. Anyway cut a long story short they were very annoyed when some milky white stuff came out the tyre (ooh err) and refused to repair it.

Unless the situation was desperate I'd get a mobile tyre fitter out before using a foam can if at all possible.
