Door Mirrors

Featured Replies

Anyone else have Octavia door mirrors that are constantly in a state of fogginess when there's a cold spell? Even after wiping them, they fog up again a couple of minutes later. Is there a coating missing from the glass? If anyone has a clever solution then give me a shout. Tried some RainX anti-fog (since I was doing the inside glass, thought I'd have a go outside, didn't work! ) but short of leaving the heating element permanently switched on I'm not sure what would help.

The heating element is only on for 10 minutes( i rhink)

leaving the button on it will make the timer come on everytime you turn the car on.

This timer can be reduced via vagcom( rear defroster also)

I leave the heating permanently switched on. I also did this on my previous car (mk5 Gti) with no ill effects.

I've been told by both a dealer & specialist that leaving the heater elements switched on is not really a good idea as eventally they'll burn out, especially if you make a lot of short trips where the ignition is switched on & off.

:wonder:

Don't know how true this is but I tend to only switch them on when I need them.

Cheers for the comments - yeah, don't think I fancy a bill for heater element burnout! Just seems strange that the mirrors fog so easily - have had a few different cars over the years and not one of them (Honda, Citroen, Toyota, VW, Nissan) have had this issue. It's as if there's some treatment missing from the glass to help prevent the misting effect. Will maybe contact a main dealer and find out if there's a solution - wouldn't have thought they should fog up again almost immediately after wiping them down.

No doubt there's an old fashioned cheap fix involving a potion made from vinegar, sherbert, eye of newt etc. and an old hanky. Or a bottle of Skoda approved solution at £20!

+1 been switched on for nearly 4.5yr now still work fine.

+1 I've never turned them off in any of my VAG cars . Are you sure that the mirror heaters are actually working?

Leaving them switched on for me then raises annother problem. The Auto Diping NS mirror then doesn't function when you put it in reverse. I still think they should do what other makers do and have the heated mirrors wired to the rear sceen switch. It's just beign different to be alkward.
