PD140 Oil Consumption

Featured Replies

How often/how much for other folks? I've had to put a litre into mine in the last 10k km/6k miles, which seemed excessive for a car with nearly 40k miles on the clock, but the garage tells me that new PD140s on variable can eat up to a litre every 1000km - so that'd be a refill every single tankful of fuel! - and that my consumption is actually pretty good.

I know VAG diesels are designed to eat oil (well, I was told once) but my old PD140 didn't use this much. Just wondering, really...

My old one did about the same (6000 miiles to a litre), although as the mileage increased the oil consumption decreased. By the time I got to 99K miles it hardly used any oil at all.

My 63k mile pd140 scout has never used a drop and it's on variable. Only 3 services do far and last one only just!

Mine uses a little but its never enough to actually need topping up between oil changes. It was on variable when I first bought it at 30k, its now on fixed and I haven't noticed any change in oil consumption. It drops from the max mark to just below half way between min & max on the dipstick in about 10k.

4 years and 60k miles here.

I've used a litre of 507 every 10,000 miles or so since new. I'm on variable and get servicing done at 16 to 17k miles slightly early according to the computer each time as don't like leaving it to the last minute.

I check the oil every 2 weeks or so and top up a little when the dip stick is at half which is probably every 3 months where I add 300ml.

Again I was told this is normal and just to keep dipping and topping up.

I was told that I could just wait for the oil light to come on then add a litre but don't like the sound of that.

My 09 plate 2.0pd uses about 2-3 litres between services (19k), it's done about 65k, and the oil consumption does seem to be dropping a bit now.

Judging by the smoke cloud when I properly press the loud(er) pedal, that's where the extra oil is going

I also have now done over 46 thousand miles and have only topped it up twice in that time, mines on variable.

My 10 plate pd140 car needs around a litre between a service, its done 54k on variable but does have a hard life, i carry alot of kit in my job and the rear is almost on the floor, the underside loves speed bumps lol. but runs great and had no problems.
