VRS brakes on a TDi?

Featured Replies

I hear you all shout about putting bigger brakes on your VRS's. But, can you put VRS brakes on a TDi (100bhp)?

Is it worthwhile? Exactly what would I need to change? Do I need a certain wheel size or will they fit under my 14's?

If it's fairly easy, what have the VRS owners done with their old brakes? Kept them aside for a rainy day? Or FleaBay'd them?

Cheers, it was just a thought I had last night and thought I may as well find out.

would cost the same to fit proper octy brakes....

It would cost a bomb really, as you need the hubs too.

You and I are stuck with our brake carriers being an integral part of the hubs, meaning we need new hubs with the removeable brake carriers to allow bigger brakes.

To be honest, I wouldn't look at furby vRS brakes. As you need the hubs anyway, like me, look at getting a set of 312s.

Oh, and you can then forget about ever using 14" wheels again. ;) Not sure 14" steels even fit over the furby vRS brakes? 288mm = nearly 12" of disc + caliper lump sticking out... I'm not convinced they fit.

15's fit over 288mm

you need 16's to clear 312mm

and 17's to clear 330mm

Bah and there was me thinking I could get a cheap decent mod that wouldn't need affect the insurance a great deal.

Looks like I'll have to start growing body organs to keep the car's improvments.

Why did you have to tell him the truth? I could of sold him my Fab vRS brakes!! :P

Honestly if your going to the trouble of fitting Fab vRS brakes you maise well go for Octy vRS brakes

Richard - why not go for DS2500 pads all round in the short run - I've been using them for 12 months or so now and love them to death!

It may be better Jason to stick with motorfactors stuff for now. Then save up for alloys, then a lower kit, and then finally brakes. A bit of a long way round but it needs to be done like that really.

At that price you could buy another French Car :rofl::rofl:
