Bolero iPod MDI sound quality

Featured Replies

Hi, I picked up my Octavia vrs tdi last week and I am very happy with it.

However, I have noticed the sound quality when I am playing music from my iPhone via the MDI is pretty poor and sounds a bit tinny and distorted. Some tracks seem to be more affected by this than others, but it happens on tracks imported from cd and tracks purchased from iTunes. I can notice it in particular on vocals.

Has anyone else had this problem or had any issues with the sound quality on their Bolero?!

Lots of people seem to think that the bolero has poor sound quality in general. I have MDI and ipod cable from day I collected and I don't use iTunes just import my own 320kbps tracks and I am happy enough but I do not notice a stepped difference between any tracks what so ever. Is the bitrate of music you have very low possibly.

Congratulations on new motor got any pics of it up yet?

Odd I don't have any distortion, but then again I have tweaked the settings on the Bolero.

What settings can you tweak besides the obvious?

I tried adjusting the settings on the equaliser, and got a slight improvement, but it's definitely not right.

The bitrate could be low, 128kbps, but I've never noticed a problem with it on other cars!

There's one called Gala. I also tweaked the normal Treble & Bass + Faders as well.

The thing is my music is on my Ipod at 192 or 256Kbps, so that & using the equaliser function of the Ipod as well may well make the difference.

Well I cant fault the sound quality on the Bolero system in my Elegance.

But I dont use ipods or itunes.

I just have MP3s on CDs and an SD card full which is more than enough for me.

Metallica on full chat gives a serious kick in the kidneys but no distortion.

Im very happy with it.

Does the Bolero have the option to set the Aux input level?

On the VW RCD510 which is basically the same as the Bolero you can adjust the Aux input level.

The ipod can overdrive the mdi and this causes distortion, tracks from cd and itunes may be at a higher level on your ipod which is why it's happening on certain tracks.

Go into settings and look for aux input level, maybe even in the tone control section I can't remember, anyway lower it one level and then try your ipod again.

As the Bolero takes 32GB cards why is anyone using mp3 with anything less than 320kpbs? When your MP3 player only held 128mb or less then a bit rate of 128kpbs was the only way to get a few albums on.

You can hear the difference (at the same volume) of tracks recorded at different bit rates.

I only use full lossless but you will still get distortion if the Aux-IN level is set too high for your mdi device.
