Need a new Radiator

Brither needs one for his Felly. He's been up in Scotland working so car has been standing at home for a few weeks. We did have a cold spell a few weeks ago which caused it to leak. Took it for a spin last week and water pi$$ed out of it. He does want a new car but being young I've told him to wait a few more months until he gets another year of no claims and then he will have much more choice of cars. So he's going to need one. Dealer is the easiest place to get it isn't it? A friend of mine does all the work but he's mega busy so don't want to mess him about with the wrong parts for the sake of saving a tenner.

which engine has the felicia got?

the radiator on the diesel ones are about £150 and they are pig to change, the petrol ones are about £50, depending on where you get the parts from.. a decent factored part is just as good as a genuine one

on a car that's worth less than my shoes its not worth buying a genuine skoda one.. also i would stick a new fan switch in there too if i was doing it..

Is it straightforward to change? He's only doing it so he can still drive it to potentially part ex it soon.

you only need a 10mm spanner and something to undo the hose clips with, access is easy on them too, you be able to lift it out from the top of the engine bay, dont even need to jack it up

These are radiators are pretty good value for money. I bought mine off this ebay seller as well. Just as good as a dealer one imo. **** easy to change over as well, just make sure that the mounts at the bottom stay in the chassis. Mine weren't sitting right and then I realised the rubber mount had come out with the radiator (D'oh!)

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm about to replace a radiator on a 1.9D - is it as simple as described above and how do I drain and then bleed the coolant system after refilling? :)

prepare yourself for a whole world of pain on the diesel model... it can be done with the engine still fitted in the car... just... but you need to whip the water pump and power steering pump out the way. you also need to seperate the fan carrier from the radiator whilst it's still in the engine bay to make it slim enough to get it out from underneath, the oil cooler housing sticks out the front of the engine so there is very limited space.. but it can be done, you just need great big shiney balls of steel

 

to drain it just pull the bottom hose off the radiator and direct the coolant into a bucket or whatever, you dont need to bleed the system per se as it should self bleed, but running the engine up facing uphill on a slope with the cap off the expansion tank and massaging the hoses is a good way of purging out any air trapped in the system

prepare yourself for a whole world of pain on the diesel model...

Seriously though - thanks for the advice - just going to need to crack on with it and see what happens!  Hopefully have someone who can lend a hand who knows what they're doing! :)
