Poor Cold Starting

Featured Replies

Our yeti is 20 months old and 33k on the clock we have started to notice it not start so quickly when cold, it's fine once its warmed up, I wait for the glow plug light to go our but still isn't as fast to start as once was or when it's warm.

The other thing the hand brake is really stiff.

Going to both checked by the dealer but wondered if anyone else has had either of these issues with theirs?

At 33k, what servicing are you on? Fixed or variable?

I noticed Elsie the helipad was a little sluggish in starting over the last couple of days, but it has been cold..........well sort of emoticon-0140-rofl.gif about 5 degrees C

My handbrake has gone stiff recently!!! Plus I've noticed my rear discs are scored.

I'll be interested to hear what your dealer says re your handbrake?

Are your discs scored as well?

It's on the variable servicing plan so it's about 2.5k off its next service based on 18k ish interval.

5's not cold :) it started better in the snow and Ice!!

Hi Dave & forge,

this thread from the Octy II forum re the handbrake may be of interest;

My link

oh a consideration re starting; believe they put an anti freeze additive in diesel this time of year and also were do you fill up :wonder: mine does not run as smooth if I use Tesco, so I tend go to the Total place round the corner despite the extra cost.

Regards,

TP

Re the cold starting problem I would get the glowplugs checked out. Had this problem a number of diesel vehicles over the years and having just one not working can make starting problematic.

Thanks plumber and andyspan

Interesting handbrake thread will see what are dealer thoughts, Andy I had considered glow plug issue how many are there and what is typical life span of glow plug.

One glowplug per cylinder, and with most modern engines they are looking at years!

It is possible for glow plugs to be eroded over time, which not only reduces their effectiveness, but it also reduces the compression of the cylinder, by effectively increasing the volume of the combustion chamber by the amount that has been removed. Both of these factors will affect starting.

Agreed, but not yet in a Yeti.
