Original Superb Alloys on 11 plate?

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone know if the 16" wheels from my original 54 plate superb would fit on my new 11 plate elegance estate?

I don't know the exact sizes with regards clearance or wheel patterns so not sure how to check it out.

Thanks

IIRC the MKI has 7 x 16" ET37 wheels and the MKII has 7.5 x 18" ET46, so yes they will fit

Cheers for that.

Got 4 for my winter tyres to go on. Now to find the tyres..........

On another point. What do Skoda state as the speed rating for 16" winters? With a 94 load and a V they're pretty hard to find.

Don't want to spend a fortune but want decent tyres. found some Nokian WR-A3 94 rating but only H speed. I take it these would be insurance invalidators????

I believe that due to weight the Superb needs XL or 97 rated tyres.

On 16" tyres the Superb needs to have tyres with a load index of 94, the XL just means Extra Load and can be found on many different load indexes.

"Winter tyres

The handling of your vehicle will be significantly improved when driving on wintry roads if you fit winter tyres. Summer tyres do not offer the same grip on ice, snow and at temperatures below 7 °C because of their construction (width, rubber blend, tread pattern). This particularly applies to vehicles which are equipped with low-profile tyres or high-speed tyres (code index H or V on wall of tyre).

Winter tyres must be mounted on all four wheels to obtain the best handling characteristics.

You must only fit those types of winter tyre which are approved for your vehicle. The permissible sizes of winter tyres are stated in your vehicle documents. Approvals may differ because of national legislation.

Please remember that the tyres should be inflated to 20 kPa (0.2 bar) more than is the case for summer tyres page 228, fig. 189.

Winter tyres no longer offer the same winter performance once the tyre tread has worn down to a depth of about 4 mm.

Ageing also causes winter tyres to lose most of their winter performance properties - even in cases where the remaining tread depth is still clearly more than 4 mm.

Speed restrictions apply to winter tyres as well as to summer tyres page 230,

You can fit winter tyres of a lower speed category to your vehicle provided that you also do not drive faster than the permissible maximum speed for such tyres, even if the possible maximum speed of your vehicle is higher. The corresponding tyre category can damage the tyres when exceeding the permissible maximum speed.

Please pay attention to the notes if you decide to fit winter tyres page 228.

You can also fit so-called “all-year tyres” instead of winter tyres.

Please contact your specialist garage if there are any points which are not clear who will be able to provide you with information regarding the maximum speed for your tyres.

S 180 km/h

T 190 km/h

U 200 km/h

H 210 km/h

V 240 km/h

W 270 km/h

Load index is either 91 or 94, it's the 94 that usually listed as XL. It's the speed rating that I'm stuck on now.

Awesome, thank you. So basically, as long as I don't go over 130mph with my winters on and buy the 94 load I can get the Nokians.

Will put some pics up when I've done them.

Thanks again for your help.

The speed rating is referring to the speed at which the tyres are warranted not to disintegrate for ten minutes, IIRC. Some margin is advised.
