great car - when its working

Featured Replies

well i have had my nice new vrs cr170 a month and its a great car all in all but iam beginning to grow tierd of the failures.

so far, twice it has had a small plastic sensor near the front wheel fill with water and cause electrical meltdown (limp mode etc)

the cruise controll has died (this morning) - completely non functional

the car wont start !!! it just displays "clutch" even when the pedel is pressed to the floor, if it tries to fire it makes an all mighty grinding noise (starter motor by the sound of it)

so all of this in the space of one month, not bad for a brand new car! i think that is more faults in one month then i had with my last car and i had that 3 years (volvo)

i have done 3400 miles this month which is about my average monthly mileage, i hope to god that i didnt make a mistake choosing this car and that these are just teething issues ?

They'll be the same fault, clutch pedal switch.

Give them one more attempt to fix and then reject it.

thanks for the reply, i got the car back today (3 days)

there was water in the clutch switch, and the abs sensor ?

the garage had to wait for a bulletin ? from skoda on how to fix the issue as water shouldnt be getting into either of these components, the car is apparently fixed now.

I have to say that appart from not having my car for 3 days the service i had from Skoda was second to none, called the recovery in 30 mins the guy was at my house, he found the fault in under 5 mins and remote started the car.

skoda uk called me and organised a hire car that was at my house in two hours, the garage on the other hand were not so efficiant but atleast they fixed the issue.

fingers crossed for no more electrical gremlins lol

Sorry to hear of your problems, i can only say that i have had my VRS since sept 2010 and have had no electrical or mechanical failures at all. I hope that you have problem free motoring for the foreseeable future . emoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0100-smile.gif

well here we go again lol

a few weeks on from the original fault of water in the clutch sensor, and i had another instance of water in the front abs sensor which has been fixed now apparently for the third time.

today my cruise control has died again for the second time, and the car seems to be lurching / juddering when you change gear.

Great, all booked in yet again, to have yet more faults fixed / not fixed ?

mileage now just under 5K, not bad hey.

iam considering naming the car 666 damien.

Are they finding the source of the water problem or just fixing the abs fault each time and leaving it to occur again?

Think I would have dropped the car off by now and left them the keys....

It's time to discuss rejecting the car.

It's time to discuss rejecting the car.

+1 !!

I feel for you! Nothing more annoying for a car enthusiast than one which keeps going wrong! You lose faith. Happened with my last car - Golf GTI Mk V.

Reject it if you can & move on. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

car is due with the dealer on 21st to have the problems fixed.

the cruise came on and off over the last week, each time it worked for a few seconds and then disengaged on its own, now its completely dead but following on from the death of the cruise all other faults have stopped ? no more surging, no lurching, no over revving, no warning lights, no limp mode

bar not having cruise control over the last week the car has been working like i would of wanted it to lol

any ideas why the cruise has been stuffing the whole car up ?

Make it clear its their last chance!

Hmmm, reading this thread with interest as I'm just about to take delivery of my new CR170...

I'll be monitoring it like a hawk!

My current (01 1.9 TDi Elegance) has had a MAF sensor in 6 years & 120,000 miles which is what I'll be expecting of the new one.

Keep us posted and I'll do the same when I get mine...

small update:

car is now back from the dealer after 6 hours, Cruise is not fixed, i had a phone call just before the car was returned to me saying they agree the cruise is not working, it will not accept a re-program and they do not know how to fix the problem.

They have emailed Skoda technical for further advice and will ring me to book the car back in yet again once they know how to fix the problem.

the saga continues for now lol

Personally I'd be rejecting the car now as it's clearly not fit for purpose, especially from brand new. I'd be wanting all of my money back and be asking from some sort of compensation too (for the time involved more than anything else.) You have been more than reasonable and given the dealer more than a reasonable amount to time to resolve the issue. Clearly there are faulty components that need to be replaced. The dealer must know where the cruise control unit is, it can't be a major issue to replace it - unless the warrenty work is covered by the dealer not SUK and they're trying to avoid stumping up.

Your choice if you decide to stay with Skoda, different dealer etc.

Not sure how this would sit with forum rules (am sure a moderator will clarify): publish the registration number here, so anyone on here seeing that plate would either walk away or ask for monster discount. If it's with a dealer, it's not "someone's pride and joy" at that time.

Thanks for the reply, Iam going to stick with the car but what i will be doing is switching to a different dealer.

Iam not going to publish the registration on here, but i completely understand why you would suggest it.

Iam just finding the whole experience very frustrating as when the car is working its prob one of the best cars i have ever had / driven but at the same time its also one of the most unreliable cars i have driven.

I had a conversation with Skoda UK about compensating me for all of my wasted time, lack of vehicle, inconvenience etc but they pretty much laughed me off the phone and said they only pay compensation to taxi drivers... ? so wouldn't entertain a claim from myself.

The dealer is mucking about because of warranty, they keep saying the cannot fix it under warranty without a full how to guide from Skoda, gone are the days of a mechanics knowledge being used to get the job done.

The dealer had the nerve to ask me how iam paying for the repair this morning.

anyway, will keep anyone who is reading this up to date when i can.

Is this the dealer who supplied the car? Best to deal direct with supplying dealer only and claim under SOGA NOT warranty. I did this when I had an alarm issue and its amazing how quickly things change when its the dealer footing the bill. Did you get it under finance? Unless you make a stand they will string you along and fob you offer.

You mentioned something interresting earlier "the cruise came on and off over the last week, each time it worked for a few seconds and then disengaged on its own, now its completely dead but following on from the death of the cruise all other faults have stopped ? no more surging, no lurching, no over revving, no warning lights, no limp mode

the cruise ecu system may be not working properly.

Return it and reject it , demand a new car under SOGA.
