Courtesy car under warranty question

Featured Replies

So my car is going in to dealers tomorrow for some warranty work, and I've been told I can have a courtesy car but have to pay something like £8.00 a day for insurance.

What's the deal with this? In my opinion, as the car is under warranty, I shouldn't have to pay anything for the courtesy car because it's ultimately not my fault the car has developed a fault...and from reading other posts on here, other members seem to have had courtesy cars for weeks on end with more serious warranty repairs and there is no mention of a cost for insurance...

Anyone know where I stand?

Cheers :)

It's standard. They don't legally have to provide you with alternative transport.

Ah that's pants. Thanks for replying though dude

In the past from other dealers I have had that or an option to use my own insurance. My insurance generally has a clause that I can use a garage supplied courtesy car. Much cheaper, they just needed to see the certificate.

Mine too. It must be worth a call to your insurance company.

When i had a loan car whilst mine was in for repair i paid a one off charge of £10,this covered me,i could of paid nothing but then the excess on the garage policy would of been £2000! so £10 covered everything should i of had a accident in the loan car.

It is a fairly standard practice and you should find that is a payment that means you dont have to pay any excess in the event of an accident.

Remember that if you do any damage to it they are within thier rights to put in a claim for damage,

You should have some options.

Add the car to your own insurance. And there may be an admin charge.

Just ask the garage to put you on thier insurance and if you have a bump or do any damage you pay the excess.

Or pay the £8 a day.

If it was me I would pay it as it shouldnt be off the road for long.

Cheers for all the posts guys.

I'm going there in the morning so I will take my insurance docs with me and see what I can do. I'm with Admiral though and I think their clause with courtesy cars is a bit pants - something like it must be from an "Admiral approved repairer". So I'll check with the dealer tomorrow.

Sounds like that is for an accident repair, check out about what you are elidgible to drive, might be there.

thers a wee clue in the word "Courtesy" car

Think my parents were offered either an £80 (or so) waiver fee when taking the car, or face an £x,000 excess if they needed to claim last time they took one out.

I asked Mazda for one - they said I was too young. :( Still took my money though!

I'm with iam insurance and you just give them the reg of the car and they'll email you a policy schedule for you to take to the dealer or bodyshop. All FOC!

Well I got a 61 plate TDI Yeti as a courtesy car and didn't have to pay anything. Just about to leave to pick the car up again as apparently it's all sorted :)

Telfords at Carlisle are like this also so instead I take mine to either the vw dealership or the local Suzuki/hyundai dealership which also does warranty work on all fords vauxhalls fiats and skodas. You get the courtesy cars for free from them.

+1 I can transfer my insurance onto a courtesy car for nothing. Needs to be done a bit in advance so I have a cert to take to the dealer.
