Intermittent Headlights (electrical problems)

Featured Replies

Good Morning,

I have searched through the forums but cannot find any similar topics.

Last night when I came to drive home I turned the headlights on and they were on the main bean setting. When I dipped them the dipped headlights did not come on (no light on the dash either).

After a short while they eventually came to life. But every time I go to high beam and back again they do not come back on again (again not light on the dash either).

This morning I discovered that if they do not come back on using the indicators they come back on. At one point they went off again on their own.

Is there a switch associated with the stalk that could be at fault? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

Dodgy connections or contacts in the stalk. Dismantling & cleaning up the contacts with contact cleaner may work, but there might be excessive wear.

Seconded; this pretty much has to be the connections in the base of the stalk.

Thanks all for the advice.

Considering the age and mileage (190k) it may be excessive wear.

I found the following part number as a replacement "Skoda Indicator Dip Switch Part 8LO953513G01C"

I'm guessing I have to remove the steering wheel to get at the old unit which would involve messing with the airbag as well? :'(

Thanks

Hi,

Looks to me that it can be replaceed without removing the steering wheel. Can send you parts drawing if you supply e mail address.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for that. I've sent you a PM with my email address.

Many Thanks

Ben

No the steering wheel has to come off to replace the stalk. If its the same sort of thing as the random clicking indicator problem some members have had very good results using switch cleaner
