Tom Tom Yeti

Featured Replies

Does anyone here have a Tom Tom Yeti car icon file in red which I can use. There is one available in brown or similar but my car is red so I am using a non descript icon in red. I did consider trying to create the file myself, but became very confused, very quickly.

Send me the brown one and I'll send it back in Red

Actually I have looked again and it is blue.

Can't see any way to send you a file, only a message?

There should be ten files in total. Do you have a link?

I'm just off home now but I'll have a go later this evening or tomorrow.

If I can do it easily (looks simple enough), I'll try to make a set in each colour

Am I following this conversation right? Are you both suggesting that the car icon on the map on a Tom Tom could be changed to a Yeti? I've got a pretty up to date Tom Tom, but nothing Yeti like is among the options I can see on offer. Do you clever people know better? I'd love one!

Didn't intend to jump in with my first post - but couldn't resist :p

Garmin do/did a range of car icons with bonnet grills looking very familiar.

As we wanted red we went with a generic crossover type, with a seasonal twist. It can be downloaded to a PC so may be adaptable for a TomTom, not sure.

Would you believe it, Garmin also do a Yeti voice

Anyway, hello to all and early seasons greetings. Will join in with location/pics etc when time permits.

Regards, Mike

You can make your own icon with a photo and red background. I'll dig out the instructions, but I made one for myold Caterham with out much hassle.

I took a pic out of my upstairs window of my octy, it was the perfect angle from above.

Then cropped it and made it the right size.

This was on my GO530 and now on my TomTom app on my iPhone.

Grab a pic of you car, straight on, central and from above.

Send it over and I'll do the rest.

Can you post a screenshot to show us what it looks like on the iPhone version?

There are hundreds of different car icons on the TomTom extras site that the Tom Tom can access via the software on my computer. Just search for Yeti and a blue one comes up. I am not sure how to send a link for this externally or to create my own, as I found the instructions a little confusing.

I am using an indeterminate red suv at the moment.

You can also load on alternative screens and colour themes. Mine now starts with a skoda logo on the screen, and there are different map colour options to suit some cars. I have changed from the default maps to ones I found clearer to use from a german origin.

I'm guessing you have TomTom Live on your PC

I've made all my icons but can't overwrite the existing files on my iPhone 4 using iPhone Explorer. I might need a newer version of iPhone Explorer to be honest!

Will keep looking. I think I'll have to name all mine car_symbol_2@2x etc as it's an iPhone 4. All the images may need to be double the size too.

See how I get on

Beat you to it :-)

Used iExplorer to drop the ten files into the phone and set the icon to Blue Arrow

A bit bulged as I took it from fairly close range. Did a bit of lens correction but probably just need a different viewpoint

Here's mine from a slightly higher angle:

Seeing the one above I might try a higher res version

The high angle looks great.

It's odd that you have to set the icon to be the default Blue Arrow though, makes me think that the various sized icons might be worked out on the fly from the main images inside the "Art" folder.

Might give that a try later.

On an iPhone 4 or 4S the large image should be 232pixels wide rather than the 116 stated in various instructions around the 'net.

It should take the name that contains the @2x ie [email protected] rather than car_symbol_2.png

Once I've found the easiest way to put the files into TomTom, I'll make a red version for you and post instructions

I didn't use blue arrow, I created one called vrs.

You have to also stick it back in cars folder after an update.

Thanks, the high angle view above looks perfect and will match the 3d Tom Tom layout I use.

I don't have the live version, only an XL I think, but it does get some traffic info from an aerial in the car.

I have the aerial hidden behind the passenger windscreen side trim and the Tom Tom neatly fitted into the dash top box.

Works really well with the lid of the box only opening just enough to allow the TomTom to be pivoted up and acting as a really good sunshade.
