After trying

Honda CR-V 2.0 150 Ks, 192 nm , 4200 rpm

Honda CR-V 2.2 Diesel , but auto

Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 Diesel , 380 nm

Kia Sportage 1.5 CRdi

Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCI

Nissan Qashqai 2.0 dCI

Skoda Yeti 2.0 Diesel 110 ks 4x2, Ambition

I'll try to share my experience. As first i wanted to put in same post the test , and the finalle what i picked, but i decided to put them in two different posts.

1. Honda CR-V 2.0

I had a chance to try two of them.. One 4 years old , with 17" Wheels. Fuel Consumption that i have was 10-11 l/100 km in city driving, and on highway i noticed that it's much bigger consumption when i drive faster then 130 km/h (it was like 10-11 l/100 km)

The average that i got on highway with normal roads (not city driving), was 9.5 l/100 km.

I like that in this 4 years old vehicle there was no any noise, or cracking, or something.. It was the most stable in tight turns, and in fast turns (i had a feel like i was driving a sport car and i drive really fast without feeling uncomfortable) and stability it was the best car from the group i tried.. I also like the space u have inside and very big luggage space in the boot. Also plenty of room. With 17" wheels it was better then 18" wheels version i tried (18" wheel version was harsher riding).

The quality of plastic, interior, how door close it's very high. The wind or road noise was lowest from all cars i tried.

What i dont like: The fuel consumption it's a bit high and also engine is too low powered for this vehicle. For acceleration i had to switch to lower gears, and to plan overtaking..

Honda CR-V 18" Wheels, 3 months old. This version had much better spec, but same engine. I noticed that fuel consumption was a bit higher (0,5-1 l) , and maybe becouse it had only 3000-4000 km on odo (it was bought in July). Also the ride was a bit harsher, but lower wind or road noise compared to other CR-V i tried.. Same thing i didnt like it.. Engine is sluggish and it's not accelerate well. It's ok for driving, but missing the power from the other diesels i tried.

Honda CR-V Diesel 2.2. Consumption was almost the same as petrol version (8-9 l/100 average). I didnt like the auto gearbox , and i had a feeling like auto gearbox make this car feel sluggish..

2. Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 Mivec Disel.. This was the best engine from all.. The power and torque that i feel was fantastic. Acceleration was also incredible, and this engine was the most fun to drive.. Fuel Consumption that i had was 8 l/100 km highway and about 9,5 city driving (i was using 4x4 mode, i guess if i drive in 4x2 mode the consumption would be lower).

Also there is plenty of space inside, and very big boot space. What i dont like:

The plastic feel very cheap, and somehow quality of interior is lower then Honda and the rest i tried.. Also the car i drive was demo and 6 months old with 8000 km on odo. There was squeaks from the rear seats which i dont like. I stopped few times to try to handle that, but the dealer said that sound is from the third row of seats. Also i feel that this car is not that stable in turns like Honda CR-V. The perfect combination would be this engine with Honda CR-V handling and interior/exterior.

3. Kia Sportage

I guess this is the same for Hyndai IX35 also.. I tried 1.7 CRDI, and it was not that sofisticated as Outlander 2.2 Also it's enough power, but just enough. U dont have that feeling as Mitsubishi outlander's diesel engine. Also i dont like the space inside. When u put the rear seats folded it's not flat space, so maybe in liters there is a big space, but u cant use it.. Also when u put equipment that i want this become expensive vehicle.. Same for Hyndai IX35 (except i never tried it). I didnt have a chance to test the handling, since i tried this only on higway and without twisted roads. The fuel compsuption was 8.5 l/100

4. Nissan Qashqai 2.0 dCI, 150ks. The version i tried was with panoramic roof, leather seets, Bose audio...The engine has almost the same power as Mitsubishi, and this was very funny car to drive. I really enjoyed.. I was driving only in City and on Highway without twisted roads. I really like the luxury of the version i had and the power of the engine.. This was the most expensive car i tried in this my personal test. The quality of plastic is very good, and no squeks or something.. The fuel compsuption is about 8 l/100

Becouse i really like this car, but it's much more expensive then i want to spend, i also tried 1.5 dCI version with lower specs. This engine was totaly different then 2.0 version.. 2.0 is Sofisticated and a lot of power and torque, while 1.5 dCI it's much noiser and u can feel that is diesel. Also there was not that much power and torque.. Actually there is but not that feeling as Outlander and 2.0 dCI.. It remind me on 1.7 Kia CRDI engine.. This Qashqai i got on test for 3 days, and i had a nice chance to see more detailed.. The quality of interior and plastic was ok (i dont like seats fabrics but plastic is very good). On same twisted road i feel very unstable, and the cabing was going left-right so we feel a bit dizzy after this ride.. Also i was not able to find a good position in the seat , and found one spot after 3 days, with the seat in more relaxed position (i prefer more vertical). The fuel compsuption was about 6,5-7,5 l/100 km.

After positive reaction from first Qashqai, i was dissapointed from this one.. Also since im mountain biking, and for me it's important to be able to put a bike inside the car. I tried to put my Specialized Epic, and there was very hard to do it, becouse Qashqai dont have square form, but rounded. So maybe it have more litres in the boot space then Yeti for example, but it's not good for bikes for example.. Also i dont like that there is not flexibility with rear seats.

5. Skoda Yeti 2.0 110 ks Ambition. I'm positive suprised from this car. The engine is very sofisticated, and maybe dont have the power and torque feeling as 2.2 Mitsubishi engine, but it's very good for driving. Also the fuel consumption is very low. I drove it very fast on highway, and i had a average of 5.9 l/100 km. In city driving was 7.5 l/100 km. The quality of plastic and fabrics are lower quality then in Honda, but higher then Kia, Mitsubishi and Hyndai.. Maybe on pair with Qashqai. The car that i drove was 2 months old with 4000 km on odo. I didnt like there was a rattle and squeaks from the rings of speedometer and RPM Meter ( i checked this part with the hand and it was rattling). I also dont like the button for adjusting the mirrors. And all buttons are lower quality then Honda's. As i said i really like the engine, since i found it enough torque and power for normal driving, but still its middle way between Honda 2.0 petrol to 2.2 Outlander diesel (as more sofisticated engine). Also Yeti on that twisted road didnt feel that stable as CR-V, but better then Qashqai and maybe similar as OutLander. I feel like rear end was jumping and a little bit on harsh side.In the from of me there was a Honda Civic, and i tried to catch him. I couldn't. I didnt feel enough stable so i slow down, and that Civic went away (i was faster on straight highway later). I also dont like the small boot (specialy with spare tire), but like the flexibility of the space offered.. For example even there is less litres in boot space compared to Qashqai and Kia/IX35, i put a mountain bike without problems inside. I still cant decide if that short end is ideal compromise for city driving and long tours and holidays in same time, or maybe i still want bigger boot. Again.. The flexibility help a lot, so it's easy to adjust space as we need.

That was my "short" description :)

Hope this is not very long and boring post.

Greetings

Darko

p.s. There would be another post for what is the finale of this test.

Do you realise that you can completely remove the rear seats in the Yeti with ease.

Welcome Darko

I understand that as the 4x2 Yeti is lighter, it will be a little more skittish than the 4x4 diesel DSG version I have. I have the same mtb and I can fit that in my car, I have the internal bike carrier and with a seat removed it fits fine (without the spare wheel option).

Many people complain about the boot space. You do have to pack vertically, but there again Skoda do a Scout version of their Octavia, and there are not many cars with a bigger boot, except the Superb estate which has a 4x4 version and a very large boot, which will self close and open if you wantemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Withe regards handling, I'm surprised with your findings with the CRV, I've not driven one but I was under the impression they were a bit of a barge. But I do drive a 4x4 and the handling, which not in vRS territory, is very good. I managed to leave quite a few much more powerful vehicles behind in the twisties when I took it on a wet track earlier this yearemoticon-0140-rofl.gif They couldn't get their power down, whereas I could.

I drive my Yeti around South London all day. For example, today I drove 82 miles, starting at 10:30 am and arrived home at 21:40 this evening having seen many clients. I drove for 5 hours and 2 minutes - yes that is an average of 16mph, and some of my journey was at 40 & 50mph speed limits! Despite all that it returned 35.7mpg, which is about 7.9 l/100km. One section of the journey, from Epsom to Rotherhithe, a distance of about 17 miles took 1 3/4 hours.emoticon-0149-no.gif

By the way the Yeti will be the best of the bunch off road. By far.

Yes. I realise that :) But still that great if two are traveling or for some planed thing.. But if are traveling three or with a kid, stil boot space is a bit small. I prefer to travel summer time, and sometimes it cant be planned what we need to transport :) For example this summer i didnt plan to have a bike, but on last day i bought a wonderfull Pinarello Bike in Italy :)

Yeti great for parking and city driving, Octavia great load lugger, Superb even better load lugger.

I bought the Yeti because it is almost 600mm shorter than a Superb and 300mm shorter than an Octavia. You want to carry lots of stuff then buy a big car that will be harder to park in the city. Your choice. We all have to make a compromise. I wanted the boot that my old Octavia had, but didn't want the size. Interestingly the boot in the Yeti is the same capacity as my old 5 series (e39) BMW touring.......and that is the same length as a superbemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

As has been said before, the secret of the Yeti boot is to pack vertically. You can fit quite a lot in because the back of the vehicle is square, it's not angled like modern estate cars. (ie, Octavia).

So while an estate car will hold more, the Yeti is pretty good.

As a family of three including a two year old we went away for a week in the Yeti with no problems at all.

And that was with a cool box and a scooter in the boot too. We just propped the parcel shelf up and filled the space.

The parcel shelf can be clipped into place behind the rear seats too...

...once you rotate it by 180 degrees. Something I did not realise and thus could never fit the darn thing in that space!

Good write up Darko. You've tried a few models from some of the other ranges so perhaps you need to try a 140 Yeti too? But then why try something if it is out of your budget?! But good luck in your decisions.

Actually i can afford Yeti 2.0 140 ks, and it's same price as CR-V 2.0. My main question is which from those? :) Yeti 2.0 140ks or CR-V 2.0 Petrol. I dont tried 2.0 140 ks 4x4 becouse there is no demo with that engine at all :)

It is confusing having two threads on the same topic. So see my reply in the other thread.
