standard suspension

Featured Replies

hi ive currently got an 04 fabia vrs and its too low every bump in the road feels like i have jus run over a cat lol>

has anybody got any cheap springs or the whole things for sale ?

Welcome - you'll find that even with standard ride height the ride's pretty awful...

i have a full set of standard suspension from a fabia vrs if thats what your after, pm me if you are mate.

I improved my ride by going up a profile size on my tyres - now running 205/50/16 instead on 205/45/16. Running standard suspension, but now strut braced & RARB'd.

Feels a lot more 'grown up' and much much less crashy on the road. I recommend

I've got some standard springs that have only done 30,000 you can have em cheap.

Rather too big - 3.38% more - +20mm diameter.

Yep and they are great ! Far better ride and less chance of you damaging your alloys. Speedo reads 71 at 70 according to GPS. Plus very few people notice the difference when they are on the car, Only one person grr666 noticed something different on my last visit to the Briskoda trackday but he couldn't quite make out what !

I've got the original shocks and springs from mine if your interested, not too far away either. PM me what your looking at if your interested.

Well you should be OK then but it would be preferable to declare the modification to your insurers as being a departure from manufacturer's standard specification just in case (if you haven't already).

If you rang an insurance company to tell them you have changed from 45 to 50 on the profile of your tyre I think they would laf at you.

I've just renewed my insurance on one vehicle and one of the items in the "modifications" table was "stickers". They'll do anything to get out of paying up. I'm currently renewing the Fabia's insurance and on GoCompare about half the insurers won't quote because of declared modifications - and I've only declared "parking sensors"!

Just checked the options declarable at GoCompare:

Alloy Wheels (non standard)

Alloy Wheels (optional extra)

Wheel Spacers

Wheel Trims

Wider Tyres

Wider Wheels

In the end it would depend on how one defines "Wider" - I'm sure some companies would include "bigger" in that description. And of course each company will have its own bespoke list.

I've just checked there re "stickers" to find:

Decals/Stickers

Increased Performance Badging

Magnetic/Removable Signs

Murals

Non Standard Paintwork

Non Standard Respray

Side Stripes

So you'd have to declare sticking a "Turbo" badge on a non-turbo car! :D

What a nightmare!

I found the ride acceptable apart from potholes and ridges etc. The handling on the other hand was woeful. Even with me coming from a knackered Citroen AX GT! The GT had a tautness to it, even though it rolled. VRS standard suspension felt like falling off a ball by comparison.

Funny you should point that out David, my insurance had no problems with 205/50/16, but last year when I phone about fitting 205/55/16 winter tyres they charged me £25 extra, not because of the profile but because they were winter tyres !!!!

(Which would make the car safer in the winter months go figure :wall: )

When I declared the 'taller' tyres to the insurance company, the only thing that they were interested in was the speed rating - was it to manufacturers minimum spec.

And yes, the speedo now reads pretty much spot on, rather than faster than actual speed, as per out of the factory
