Pro alloy FMIC fitting?

Featured Replies

I have got hold of a Pro Alloy FMIC(Peppyuk)for my mk1 occy VRS. Can anyone give me any tips on how to fit. I havent tried yet but just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea? , mounting arrangement, tools req etc. Thanks

If it were me:

1. Mount cooler itself as the position of this isn't negotiable.

2. Get all of the pipework in-situ and coupled toegther (loosely) before tightening any of the clamps.

3. Once all in place, perhaps marking the alloy pipes with a Sharpie so you know how far to push them into the silicon couplers?? incase of any dismantling/remantling required

Sounds like a plan :-) what fixings does the IC pick up? Radiator?

I've got a Pro Alloy FMIC on my octy vRS that I fitted myself a few years ago.

At the time I fitted it I took loads of pics cos it was a bit of a pain to get right (comes supplied without fitting instructions), but I must have deleted all but two of them doh.

Mine needed extra brks and spacers to fit which I made myself, and the (top) outlet pipe caught on the crash bar so the crash bar needed to be cut.

The height you mount the cooler on the crash bar is critical, if you get it too high or too low (even by only a couple of mm) the bumper wont refit, it'll catch on the (bottom) inlet pipe. If you ring Pro Alloy they will E mail you some pics of an FMIC they fitted to a red vRS and that will give you some idea where you need to drill the holes in the crash bar.

I made an additional brkt to support front of the pancake pipe and fitted extra clamps to control the movement of the boost pipes under full boost ( I found the pipes pro alloy supplied expanded and their pre formed shape altered by an alarming amount when they were subjected to 21 psi).

Bill.

I have a forge FMIC fitted and I took a lot of pics. I think I even did a guide on here somewhere. Although you have a Pro alloy one and fitting is slightly different the pics of mine and removing all the parts of the car to mount the FMIC maybe helpful to you.

As mentioned mount it roughly with all part loose to see if you have everything in the best place with bumper loosely fitted. You may have to be creative in mounting it to crash bar as been stated also.

I happy to post my pics of find old thread

Think ive seen the post but pics wernt working? Would appreciate it if you could show me some pics to give me a rough idea?

Fitting the Pro Alloy was dead easy, from memory;

Remove front bumper

Remove plastic trim from around radiator

Remove old side mount cooler

Drill 4 holes for new cooler and bolt on

connect pipes

refit bumper and enjoy :-)

Once you start taking things apart you will soon see how easy it is.

Just make sure you do the clamps up nice and tight, you really don't want the hardest one to get to popping off when you join the A3 on a really really cold rainy day!

Some, not great, photos.
