Switched Live Help

Featured Replies

Looking for a switched live feed in the engine bay. Can anyone help me out? Either that or i am going to have to run one from inside to out  Oh car is a 52 Plate Octavia VRs

Important information here would be, what is the live feed for?

For example, is it for something drawing enough current that would require a seperate relay?

Its only for a set of daytime running lights so power output is minimal. I am wiring them through a relay i bought on ebay

Pick it up from the ecu maybe? It's under the scuttle panel.

Either that or there's an ignition feed on the fan control module under the battery. It's pin 9 on the 14 pin connector.

ok thanks the one at the battery would be the easiest i suppose as i am mounting the small relay beside there anyway.

It's a shame Ring doesn't sell their drl relay/switch thing by it's self, According to the instructions on the side of the box all you have to do is connect 2 wires to the battery and one to the side lights and they automaticly go on when the engine turns on (think is senses the voltage drop from the starter) and turns off/goes dim when the lights turned on. It switches off 5 mins after you switch off (think it also senses charge from the alternator).

Alot easier than searching for wires shame the drl's cost so much

Would work great as see me home lights or to find your car in a dark carpark aswell.Would be useful if you get it to post a review on here and tell us how good it is :)

On my felicia I had an automatic lights controller that had a light sensor that I mounted at the bottom of the windscreen.

I wired it up so that I had a switched on the dashboard (a second sidelight switch) so that I could turn them off.

When I unlocked the car power was supplied to the controller and so if it was dark the lights would come on and also when the ignition was on.

Then when I locked the car the power feed was cut and the timer on the conroller would work (which I could adjust) then the light would go off after about 30 seconds.

Something along those lines might be better than a dedicated remote for the lights and works more like factory fit coming/leaving home lights.

Ive not wired mine yet not had time  So do i need the battery out to get to the plug?

If your putting LED running lights on,(so low load) take live feed from headlamp level ajuster wire on head lamp plug,as that is ignition switched live and a fused circit, we have fitted some genuine daylight running kits to new ford fiestas and this is how were told by ford to wire them in. :p

tried that but no joy's, not sure it stays live when not adjusting the headlights?

The headlamp level adjusters are only live when the headlights are on, as they are powered by the right side headlamp circuit.

ah so that bombs them out then as the idea is hey are on even if the headlights are not eh? and explains why I wasn't getting any volts at the multi-meter as I was testing the left (near side) headlight.
