Insurance problem

Featured Replies

I had a quote for £600 (+£100 excess) for me and my partner fully comp from "More Than" via confused.com on a 2004 Octavia vRS. I haven't bought the car yet but i was planning a remap almost straight away when i purchase it in Feb.

I changed policy details and listed a remap with a gain of 11%-20% bhp (200bhp ish) The cheapest re-quote was £1900! That was using confused.com too. Not telling the insurance company about mods is a no no and £1300 increase for 20bhp is somewhat ridiculous.

Any ideas?

Use a proper performance car insurer such as Brentacre, or one of the forum sponsors. Confused are about 50% crap prices anyway, and it only gets worse once you factor in mods, in my experience.

Keeping shopping around. Try the insurers that deal with modified cars like Adrian Flux, Brentacre, Chris Knott (some of them are site sponsors too so mention you are on Briskoda).

The figures you get quoted on these comparison websites are always wildly different to what you'll get when you phone the actual insurer up.

Or the other option is to not bother remapping it - cheaper on the fuel and cheaper on the insurance!

go compare are pretty good for mods. But you are best trying flux or sky

it was cheaper with flux to insure my mods than it was without

Yeah, don't bother remapping it.

Thanks for the replies.

I've asked Flux for a quote so I'll see what happens there. Failing that I'll do without the remap.

I#ll let you know, Cheers.

I shopped around for insurance this year and it was cheaper for me to insure cars with all mods declared with adrian flux than it was a standard car with a decent insurer on comparison sites

the remap for these is so good though, be a shame not to do it B)

To conclude this thread and finish it on a good note Flux got back to me today with a quote of £630 for us both fully comp declaring remap, exhaust and filter.

Cheers guys, great help!
