new Fabia owner with a couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hi,

Picked up my wife's 53 reg Fabia Elegance tdi tonight. She's gone out with it tonight or I'd be sitting RTFM this evening.

The AC light wouldn't stay turned on till I turned the fan to position 3. With it in position 2 the light came on for a few seconds then went off again. Is this normal?

Also it looks like one of the keys needs a new battery. It's the three button rob. Do the two halves just pull apart?

Thanks,

Martin

Was it the AC light or the re circ light next to it?

And yes the key pulls apart, then opens up.

Definitely the ac light.

Oh, and do the vents just pull out like on the Octavia?

Is the ac set to demist?

Another question... when you unlock the car from the remote, only the driver's door unlocks on the first press of the key. Second press unlocks all the doors. I'm assuming that this can be changed with vcds, as this sounds like an adaptation change, it'll need to be the full version not lite?

oh, and can cruise control be retro fitted if I get hold of a stalk?

You need stalk and wiring, and yes single door opening can be changed with VCDS, not sure on lite, never used it.

Is the coolant temp sensor the same on all engines? In other words, if I got one out of Tahir's vRS that he's breaking would that be the same?

Yeah, but they're about £28 brand new. Not worth getting second hand IMO

Was it cold outside, as the AC might not work when is cold(I think under 5 C). Also the Elegance should have cruise control already fitted, at least mine had, but is 2005...

It was about 10C, so it should have worked.

Reasonably sure it's not got cruise, but then I've not seen it in daylight yet! :giggle:

Oh, and I've got the key apart, now how do you get to the battery? :S

EDIT: Done it now. Light comes on when you press it now, so just need SWMBO to come home so I can check it!

I'm guessing that the fan switch is a bit iffy and only confirms its "on" when in position 3. Had a read of the manual tonight and the only criteria are

Engine running

Fan position 1-4

Outside temp > 5c

All three of those conditions were met, so I think the fan switch is the most likely culprit.

update: fan not working at all in position 1 or 2. Looks like the fan resistor. Will have to check the pollen filter too. Is it behind the scuttle panel? How do you get to it?

Pollen filter is in the top of passenger foot well there's two catches to undo then the lid pulls off then pull filter out. I recommend putting something down in footwell as if it's quite full the bits will go everywhere

Just to let you know, don't do my mistake of taking the battery out for a while, take it out and out the new battery in straight away! Otherwise you may have to recode your fob which is what I had to do :(
