  • Regarding point 4. As long as your columbus has the latest firmware and maps with a version higher than 7.1 then speed cameras are a piece of cake. 1) Subscribe to pocketgpsworld database 2) Downloa

  • Hi Allan, Good to hear your up and running with the test database. The icons in the test file were downloaded from the POInspector blogspot The downloads can be found on the right hand side listed

Can you be clearer about what you mean by it not being "saved on the computer"? I hope you realise that it is a Windows-based programme and will not run on a Macintosh. The download is a .zip file, which is not self-extracting, nor does it create a desktop shortcut by itself on installation. You need to extract the files from the .zip folder, then, once the files are extracted, place them in a new folder, then drag the RNS510poi.exe file onto the desktop with your right mouse button. Release the button, choose "Create Shortcut Here" - job done. :)

you are so knowledgeable ray.

Compared to a banana, maybe! :)

Thanks Ray. I´m running windows 7. I now have the icon on the desktop, however the program doesn´t show up in the list of programs. I have the POI list from PocketGPSworld.com. Should this be OV2 or ASC file?

When I open the Poinspect0r and try to create a database selecting `New` only gets me an error message: `Missing File "Custom POI base. Get latest proper version" .`

Trying to import the db3 file as OV2 I get an error: "Cannot find SQLite drive "SQL.dll"

I've tried removing the file and downloading it again but it's still the same.

OK, here's a list of files you should have from the downloaded .zip file (rns510):

files.jpg

The message you received: `Missing File "Custom POI base.... ' relates to one of the files in the list. If you don't have it, that's the answer.

Use either .csv or .asc files to create the new database.

The instructions are in a .pdf file here, which I followed exactly, leading to first time success. The only tweak I had to make was in the icon sizes, as they're too large to begin with, AIR.

I used .ov2 files in "Pimp My Nav" but I've not tried them in Poinspect0r - as I said, I followed his instructions.

If you've got all the files in my list, make sure that they're all in the same folder as the 3 executable filess. The programme won't appear in the Programs list - nothing to worry about as you've now got a shortcut.

Let me know if you've any further or additional questions. I run an iMac and rather than use Parallels software, I can fire up my small Windows 7 Pro by re-starting, so I can't interactively look at the programme now, as I'm on Lion OS at the moment. If you'd prefer, send me a PM and I'll ping you my Skype address so we can have a chat about any other/further problems. :)

Ray

Thanks. I deleted everything then started again from scratch; I now have this which is somewhat different, maybe because it is a newer version? Unfortunately the problem remains.

I've downloaded the ASC files but am unable to convert them from that to db3 files.

I've only had to use the Nav system twice in anger, both times in Belgium. I'm less than impressed; one time it tried to send me up a cycle/foot path and the second time it had me re-tracing the route it previously sent me along. If this is the standard they are fitting to Bentleys I foresee a large drop in sales

Do you realise that it's the programme itself that does the conversion into database files? You only have to show it the .asc files and it will make the database for you from those. When you say "the problem remains," what actually is the problem now?

That would probably count as good driving in Belgium!

I have Map version HDD shown as 7690, is this up to date?

I picked up my car some 2 weeks ago and have the same map version as you. I can only assume this is up to date as it is from a different dealer.I also used Poinspector and pocketgps today to add speed cameras. So far the columbus recognises them,I just need to suss some proper icons now for each detector.

<p>To the people with problem of the "greyed out button",I had the same problem, and here is the solution:

The problem lyes in the way you built the file directory.

In the "root" of the SD card, create a folder named "PersonalPOI" and in that folder you should put in the POI database.

Also in order for the database to load correctly, when you compile the file in the "POI Inspector" program, you should save the actual POI's as a "sub category" as a "child" to a main category. Here is a screenshot of my file structure that worked perfect on my Superb:

I hope this was helpful!

Hi Allan,

Good to hear your up and running with the test database.

The icons in the test file were downloaded from the POInspector blogspot

The downloads can be found on the right hand side listed as Personal POI custom icons in the download section. There's a very good selection of icons for speed cameras and lots more beside.

The icons can then be used within POInspector. Click the Tools button and then select icons. This will allow you to add icons. You can only add one at a time unless you unlock the program by making a donation. Once you have added the icons you need you can then change the icons for each item by right clicking and selecting edit category.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi

I've manage to get the gatsos appearing on my columbus by following the instructions here but the Icons are a bit of an issue - they display correctly when you select the POI for display but they display the wrong symbol on the columbus.

Any ideas folks

Any help will be appreciated.

Andy.

What symbol do they display instead? - that may give a clue.
