Featured Replies

Hey

Simple one for yas :) lol

Some say I need 1 ltr others say 2 Ltrs can anyone clear this up for me? :)

And how much for a gearbox oil change aswel? :)

Trying to get all my bits and pieces together for a

Nice big service and some tlc :)

Don't know about about brake fluid but you need 2.3l of gear oil. Make sure you get the 6speed stuff. About £25 a litre from skoda.

Skoda recommend changing 1.15 litres iirc during a brake fluid change. They also recommend draining the reservoir first and filling with new fluid.

Can the whole 1.15 litres be drained from the reservoir itself and then simply refilled there or is there something else

Involved?

Thanks

What I normally do when changine the brake fluid is drain the resevoir down (but still leaving a tiny bit in the bottom so you're not pushing air through the pipe).

Then I will use a 1 ltr bottle of brake fluid to do the change using my gunson eezibleed to speed up the process.

I find that has been enough to flush it through. Although the first time I did it on this car it hadn't been done for quite some time so used 2 x 1 ltr bottles as it was especially mucky!

Stick 1.5l through the brakes (or 2l depending on sizes your buying).

3l for gearbox.

I've get some 312mm fronts and 256mm rears and thought it would be good to do the the fluid too :)

Are you just quoting the extra fluid to allow for a bit of a flush through?

Thanks

I am yes, I always like to flush a load through the brakes.

Also don't forget to bleed the clutch too as that uses the same fluid as brakes.

Phil

If you drain and refil the reservoir then there is no need for a flush through as your only bleeding through clean fluid. The system holds next to nothing itself so will only require a small amount bleeding out.

You can bleed the clutch, it's not normally done as not a safety concern really.

Ok thanks all :)

That sounds like a Kwik Fit brake fluid replacement job  You have to send fluid through the pipes otherwise the old fluid stays in the pipes. A common method is to use an Eezibleed which pushes fluid through with the pressure from a spare tyre, as you open each bleed nipple in turn. Bleed order for RHD I believe is NSR, OSR, NSF, OSF, then clutch. Skoda say to extract 0.2l from each brake bleed nipple, and 0.1l from clutch. That accounts for 0.9l.

Makes sense!

And I only did my clutch as the fluid was disgusting and very old so wanted to get as much of it out the system. Also guess while you're at it you might as well just to renew the fluid in the lines.

Here is what my fluid was like (new on left and some of the old on the right... pretty obvious anyway! lol):
