How good are your cars emissions?

Featured Replies

We have posts re "How good is your MPG" etc........BUT I thought I would do this as emissions are very important......also it could be argued that a cleaner exhaust with less MPG is better for being "green" than better MPG and higher emissions!.......Good old petrol vs diesel!!!!!

So post the car model, engine size & type, gearbox type, milage on test report, and the stats as per my example!

Fabia MKI, 2001, 1.4lt 16v 74kw, AUB, Petrol, 5speed manual, 48,408miles

FAST IDLE TEST

CO Level = 0.00%......must be less than 0.20%

HC Level = 8ppm......must be less than 200ppm

NATURAL IDLE TEST

CO Level = -0.01%......must be less than 0.30%

B)

I didn't think diesels were tested on emissions?

I don't have mine on me at uni (strange that!), but I'll look later.

I think the Polo was ten times over the limit on the last test though! emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gifemoticon-0145-shake.gif

I can remember mine as I only got it MOT'd yesterday!

CO 0.02%

HC 6ppm

Remaped Octavia vRS mk1, 52 plate on 99k

Correct, diesels just get a smoke test.

This is my octy mk1 vrs

FAST IDLE TEST

CO Level = 0.033......must be less than 0.20%

HC Level = 129ppm......must be less than 200ppm

NATURAL IDLE TEST

CO Level = -0.026%......must be less than 0.30%

Funny thing is nowt got stuck up the exhaust! :giggle: If i ever want to de cat i know where to go lol

Fiat grande punto 1.2 petrol 2007 manual.

Co fast idle 0.04

Hc 173pp

Co natural idle 0.05

Good enough to get road tax for £125 a year and that's

all I'm bothered about tbh.

£235 for the MX5 though. Bummer!

Well I had my MOT today!

Smoke opacity analysis

Limit 3.00 [m-1]

Opacity Mean Value : 0.89 [m -1]

Does that count?

Yes as that is the only test on a diesel........good result!

To give bit of perspective in the way that emissions have changed over the years:

1991 Ford Sierra 1.8 petrol, CVH engine, 90ps 66Kw, carburrettor without any emissions equipment, 5 speed manual.

Idle test only for the MOT, CO 0.212%, limit 3.5%, HC 252ppm, limit 1200ppm

And compare mine........WOW......that is a difference on the regs!!!...good post!!

Just to be different:

1968 88" Land Rover fitted with a Rover 3500cc V8

CO no test

HC no test

Visual inspection for smoke

Only problem is the speed at which the fuel gauge drops :S

Ah! The old CVH, The 1,4 was a dog of an engine!

Sometimes referred to as the NVH engine. I quite liked them when they were new in the 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 Escorts/Orions and the 1.8 Sierras were noticeably better than the 1.6s. Not too bad for its time, with fuel consumption at 56mph being quoted as over 50mpg.

The mongrel did 1.4 smoke test when the limit is 3.0. To be fair, if the mongrel passes a smoke test any bloody diesel should as long as its running reasonably well....

Who cares lets all buy big 'V' engines and warm the planet upemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I've just dug mine out:

2005MY Volvo V70, 2.5 auto, 67k. 261kw

Fast idle

Co level 0.01% limit 0.2

Hc level 21ppm limit 200

Natural idle

Co level 0.03% limit 0.3

Already trying to do that
