Boost Gauge and Induction kit

Featured Replies

basically has anyone done it?

There's a few on here that should have "boast" gauges, but I am assuming you mean boost gauge! :D

Harsh but true. ;)

Out of intereest is it really worth having a boost gauge for a TD? Not sure if a lot is actually made and it's not really related to power made.

Am assuming it's for a TD seeing as this in in Fabia section.

its a fabia vrs that i have if that makes any difference

Just drop in a replacement Green Filter...do a search for the part number.....a common mod. Also the Ibiza inlet pipe is worth while for remapped Fabias.

Wouldn't know about the gauge.

TDs boost higher than petrols don't they Adrian ?

23psi ish

I could be wrong but anyway the basic formula is...

swooshy gauges = good

no :) ?

Sorry this doesn't help much Jason, I found out a bit by searching on Cupranet.... Vortex is *** at the mo :)

ok ta, will take a look.

You could be right Pete....I don't know much about the 1.8T and even less about the PD. :o

v important

Me too :)

Mis-spent weekends of my yoof on other forums with only the search button to keep me company Ade :o

TDi (and PD) engines do run at a higher level of boost. Remaps generally play with the fuelling rather than the boost. Therefore a boost gauge wouldn't tell you much IMHO. Other than if you had a knackered turbo - and believe me, with a diesel you wouldn't need a boost gauge to tell you that the turbo's gone TU... ;)

Cheers H....that's what I meant. ;)

There must be a boost guage out there which is calibrated to give readouts of typical higher pressures of PD/TDI turbos? You hear lots about them on petrol turbo's but I'm unsure why they've not spread in a similar style with diesels? Are they perhaps harder to tee off from the sensor or something?

Pleasure to be of service! NEXT!!

Jason, from what I remember, they run up to near max boost pressure quite quickly and then just stay there, so there's less variability than with the 1.8T. I can't see what it would be telling you...

Other than something else to distract you from the road

Now, if they're swooshy, that's a different matter, eh Pete ;)

Aye...this is how I understood it....most of the extra power/torque comes from overfueling...thats' why there's extra smog.....and it's not so reliant on boost as it petrol engines.

So I agree on the boost gauge comment made by H.....as for being swooshy.....next Pete will want one that has 7 different back light colours!

From IP... before you ask Pete. ;)

Got mine working a while ago (just never actually got round to mounting it anywhere...or feeding the boost tube permanently into the cabin)

Boost shows upto 2 bar around 1900-2500 revs, and sort of just sits there...

Distraction, maybe an extra bit of info, but just eye candy, really...

How did you test it without the boost tube running into the cabin ? Just curious :)

2 bar! I'm sure mine was running 1.6 max when remap was done.

Maybe not.

H Tuning boxes don't turn boost up Remaps do, I think the AMD one click boosts it by .5 bar IIRC to cope with the extra fuel so it doesn't soot up. I think the limit for the standard turbo is about 1.8-1.9 bar boost before the internals of the turbo start ro get sucked down the exhaust pipe

Ahem. Rested it on the bonnet, just where the screenwash jets are... :D

VERY temporary...

This was last autumn, so the weather wasn't too bad. I was going to mount it properly, but a combination of laziness and cold weather prevented me from doing it. I did actually go to all the bother of making a mounting plate, wiring it all in (minus the boost tube) and having it in my dash for ages, just looking pretty. Got sick of the LEDs winking off every now and again, and aforementioned bad weather preventing me from pulling the dash apart to find a suitable grommet to feed the boost tube (and oil pressure sender wire) through from the engine bay.

If you're interested in some help, I've still got my plans, ideas and bits I cobbled together... ;)

Maybe my gauge was inaccurate. It's only a "cheapo" Fast and Furious one. Oh, by the way, TDIs don't show vacuum off the intercooler pipe, so you only get half the functionality of the gauge...
