2002 Fabia Dodgy Handling

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought a Fabia SDI estate a week ago, the price was good so I was expecting a few niggles.

The main problem is that as you acelerate the car pulls to the right, as you decelerate it pulls to the left. I'm sure I'm not he only one to have this problem, could someone point me in the direction of what I need to change, I'm assuming bushes as there are no knocks or noises?

Could be various things......track rod ends, track rods, console bushes (rear bush on lower front wishbone)...etc..... B)

I would say it's unlikely to be the bushes unless one's completely fallen out. Mine were pretty shagged and the car drove OK under normal conditions. Check simple things first then escalate...

Are all of the tyres the same shape and size and inflated correctly?

Do the wheels appear to sit correctly. - Viewed from front and back do the wheels appear mirror images or is one decidedly "odd" looking?

Would be worth a once over to check bushes/bearings and springs and if possible get a 4 wheel alignment done.

It certainly isn't torque steer  :p

And they all pull to the left to some extent.

If you dont get any knocking then I would rule out bushes. They would knock over bumps and of very hard acceleration.

Tyres: If you have different thread patern or different load index or different size then they might cause pull to side.

Check your engine and gearbox mounts. If one of them is damaged then engine would change posistion during acceleration and it will cause the pull.

For situation like yours, as you just bought it and you accept minor problems then I would suggest proper suspension check with alignment/full geometry. That way you will eliminte any possible suspension problems which will pay back later with tyre life and handling. If it turns out its something other what I listed you can approach that later.
