Briskodians, I am sorry to tyre you with re-treading the same old story but I will offset it by plying you with some rubbery humour.

I still have the original Dunlops fitted to me VRS2 after 16 months and 11k. All roar and no grip unless its July and you’re going 80% +, they look good for another 5k yet. However I will not forget their performance last winter which is the first time I have ever just parked a car up and decided to take the bus. It has kept my mileage down though.

So I have decided to go with some winter tyres. I know I could throw a set on the original alloys, but I have a spiffingly kinky set of spare 5x100 alloys sat in me garage that are 7.5Jx16xET35. Every time I clap eyes on these Italian beauties I drool at the thought of seeing them freshly rubbered up on me VRS. I am thinking I will pop some 205/45/16s on these and my radii’s will be somewhere near where they ought to be. I have tried these alloys on and they clear the callipers just fine, but sit a gnats whisker further out.

Can I? Would you?

Is the offset in spec though?

Would this upset the geometry/clearance?

non vrs oem alloys are 43 offset, on 6 inch or 6.5inch wide wheels.

Compared to 16x6.5inch wheels on 43 mm offseet, at 35mm offset the centre of the wheel will stick out a bit more, but they are 25mm wider so will also stick in and out by 12.5mm more either side (7.5 less 6.5 inch). In total the wheel will stick out 12.5 + 8 mm more.

edit: vrs wheels are 7 inch wide and i think 41mm offset, so your wheels will only be 0.5inch divided by 2 plus 41 less 35mm) stick our more.

I've got a Monte as opposed to a vRS, standard ET41, and have just put a set of ET31 Speedlines on, and they are absolutely fine

i think they will stick out by about 12.5mm more than your vrs wheels
