Car going haywire.

Featured Replies

I am now on my 4th vrs. My latest is a late pre facelift DSG CR diesel.

In the past few month i have had

Failed EGR valve. Car in limp mode.

Failed rear wash

ESP light showing

Failed Cruise control

Remote locking not working properly. Boot re locks it's self after pressing unlock on fob.

Unlock button in car won't work.

This morning...

Power steering failure after ESP light and tyre pressure monitor light display. Problem resolved after switching off ignition.

What the hell is going on??

Most worrying of all though is a slight grating noise from the transmission and slight juddering at times when dsg shifts up.

Add to that, I am sure it is shifting up far too early.

Car is in this morning after a mechanic has driven it and acknowledged that the dsg IS making funny noises.

He also tells me that if a possible fault is reported before my warranty runs out ( April ). They will repair it AFTER the warranty has expired.

Is this true?

Not happy.

Legally they wouldn't stand a chance if that is true I believe. If the fault is reported and accepted it's at that point the date is important not when they are going to fix it.

Sorry to hear of your issues though

I can deal with the ESP light and power steering etc. It's the DSG that really bothers me. See whet they say at the end of today.

Sounds like they are trying to fob you off, if its faulty it gets fixed now rather than later!

It will be interesting to hear what the dealer has to say, if it is down in writing that you have reported and they have accepted that there is a problem and a fault develops that can be directly attributed to that fault then they should honour the warranty. I have a small issue on mine where it can jolt on a downchange into an even numbered gear, especially gear 2.

DSG problems are very worrying because they are expensive to repair/replace. A North American forum I came across recently said that VAG were giving their US customers 10 year warranty on dsg because of unacceptable failure rates. I don't know if this was imposed by government or done voluntarily.

In your position I would write to dealer principal explain situation and that you have been told any necessary repairs would be done even if or when warranty expires. Send by recorded delivery and follow up with a second letter if you get no reply. Also copy to Skoda UK. This may sound a bit OTT but in these spiv economy days you need every protection for your posterior.

I notice this is your 4th car; were they all from same dealer, in which case I would have thought customer loyalty should count for something despite aforementioned spiv economy.

Best of luck.
