Re-mapping My Vrs Octavia Mk1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I recently bought a VRS 1.8T and I'm currently thinking about getting it re-mapped. Does anyone have any advice or have any good/bad experiences with re-mapping their Octavias.

They claim they can increase it to 210bhp without any trouble...

Any advice would be appreciated...

Shark can sort you out. Ideal for you as they send the STS kit which is a self programming box that you plug into your OBD port. Excellent results.

I'm living in Ireland and guy living near me said he'd do it for £200...

Is there anything i need to do or look out for beforehand or anything?

Do your research and check all the threads on here about remaps. 210 is definitely a realistic figure to expect from a remap. Unless you bought the car from a dealership I would check if its not been remapped already, I reckon most of the VRSs on the road have been by now.

Buyer beware of £200 re-maps ! I'd go for a trusted tuner and pay a bit more. In any case your car must be up to scratch mechanically before a re-map. A full service is a must.

silly comment expensive maps doesnt mean there good maps!!!!

ive seen some shocking maps from the top priced tuners and ive seen some really good maps from less known cheaper mappers !!!

I think you mis understood. I didn't say expensive but to go with a trusted tuner with good feedback.

This guy has been recommended to be fair...

Car was serviced 1k ago, although there is a slight noise on start up when cold, for about 25seconds, ive been told it's my secondary air pump..

Should I get this sorted prior to getting it done?

Yep that sounds like the secondary air pump. It's not an issue unless it annoys you. You can replace rivets with screws to stop the noise.

Doesnt bother me no.... Think I'll go ahead with the remap so in that case. Cheers for the advice lads

I think briskoda really needs another forum for remapping.

£200 remaps aren't always bad. Mine was done for £250 by a friend who gets his maps custom made from a well known company around my way.

If you have a Single mass flywheel over a dual mass you can get a bit more power out of it.

I had mine remapped by a local company all ok, makes a hell of a difference.

Just a Q about the sec air pump. Whats involved in getting at these rivets, must i take off the pump?

You don't have to take it off. Since you are new too it leave it alone for the mean time. Wait till you get your remap and see if it requires you to vhange anything and then take it from there.

Do the obvious things first....

Take off the engine cover and check for split hoses

Clean the throttle body and change the seals and gaskets on the TB, inlet manifold and rocker cover

get the coil packs changed on the recall if you can

check the sparks

drill, smooth and extend the airbox

Get a fault code reader

Then go for the remap

changing the bushes

removing the rubbish
