Thanks for that then....

some one very nicely decided to ignore all of what they learnt when they past their test many years ago and cut across lane and drive straight into me, its not as if i am hard to miss i am in a bright bloody red car!!!!

Now i have the hassel of getting this sorted around xmas as he has decided to say i drove into him which is laughable because if his story were true then i would also have front end damage, luckily i have a witness who came forward.

ok rant over....

This time last year a car pulled out of a side street and hit my car, while I was arguing with the insurance over the crash my car was parked outside my house. While I was in work a bus ran into the back, same side though so looked good from my window!

It's not good when bad drivers are on the road, my only crashes since passed my test and they were 6 days apart. My insurance went up!

Ugh :(

Bad times!

Yet another reason to get a drive recorder. Barstewards :swear:

This is why I have a drive recorder.

It would have shown you driving in the correct lane with speed, date, time and location. Then the bump, even if the other car was out of sight. Although it would probably have been caught on a wide angle lens.

Case closed your honour.

Annoying though. Hope it doesn't cost much to put right. :(

this is the first time i have heard of a drive recorder ....

It is annoying to know that because of some one elses stupidity its going to cost me money in the long run with increased insurance costs, the actual cost of repairing the damage shouldn't be too much

Had an Audi go straight on in the right lane for right turn only into a single lane, as I was going straight on at a roundabout a few days ago. Luckily my sixth sense was active and I checked my mirror before flooring it after the slow moving funeral cars had turned left.

With some care in your description of the event and some pictures (Google/digital camera) and a witness, hopefully the claim will go in your favour. Hopefully you took a pic of his car too at time of accident?

At least the damage appears mostly constrained to the wing only.

Not to mention losing your excess and no claims. If you're not careful your insurance company will go knock for knock (50/50) meaning you each pay for your own damage. Too often these days insurance companies can't be bothered to contest these cases so are only too happy to let it go knock for knock.

So tempted by a drive recorder, especially with the group buy that you've got. I had a taxi almost crash into me today, I phoned up the taxi company with the car and reg number and they didn't give a flying f ** k! :(

Yep with it only being a wing, makes you wonder if it's easier and more financially beneficial to get it sorted yourself, feel angry, and go round his address in a few months with a bottle of brake fluid to get your revenge

That's not at all surprising.

This is really changed my mind about your group buy! Lol

I I feel so sorry for ya man :( I'd be sick

Problem is, even if the OP pays to have the Fabia fixed the third party could still claim off him. Then it's still noted as a claim anyway.

At work 50% of our claims are dodgy in some way. You just wouldn't believe how much of it goes on.

This is the reason I'm having to bite the bullet and buy 70 Drive Recorders for the minibuses. :(

Can't come cheap :(

Can't come cheap :(

I don't want to thread cr@p on the OP's thread about his damage, but no it doesn't.

My fleet policy has been very low for years. Now with the claim culture it's gone up by £20k for the coming year.

So I've got little choice.

Classic example. Broken back light on an MPV with only a driver in it... hey presto, six whiplash claims.

With a camera I'd have had evidence how many were in the vehicle. The claim would have been flagged up as fraudulent and the whole thing would have been dropped. Instead I have a £20k claim. :swear:

And it's becoming more common...

I am very tempted to get one of these kits, although there is a mind boggling array! All I really want is a lipstick tube size of camera lens behind the mirror, then a box of gubbins tucked away which is doing all the recording. A lot of the systems appear to have quite chunky cameras which if installed to be permanent, could pose a car security risk.

I'm also tempted by these kits but wary of how they will look when installed and the ease of install. Does anyone have pics of one fitted and/or a fitting guide? Also do they cover front and rear and use wide angle lenses?

Wth relation to the original thread, my wife had a similar issue a couple of years back driving my car when on a roundabout another driver decided to cross into her lane and did fairly similar damage but it covered the wing, the door, the bumper and the tyre and alloy. We, luckily, didn't have any issue getting the insurance companies to agree that it was 100% the other drivers fault, still have the pain of filling in the accidents bit when getting new insurance!

I didnt take any pics of the other car as there was no visable damage (it was a bag of crap anyway), through work i am going to see if i can get hold of a proper road lay out and i will draw down what happened

I have had a similar thing where by i was not in the wrong but was told by the insurance company that they are going to pay the other person as its cheaper to do this rather then fight it.... I was very annoyed to say the least, i am hoping that this isnt the case this time.

thanks mate, i am trying not to think about it other wise i would not be a happy bunny

I had one v similar too recently, driver managed to lightly clipped my rear door. we both (I did) decided to not go through with insurance and just leave it as 'a driving incident' because at the end of the day its just going to insurers pockets and not 'teaching that *&^% to drive properly' :dull:. Win some lose some :|

It's really simple, you just stick it to the glass.

RockHopper has them in his Yeti, with a thread in the Yeti Projects section and he has also contributed valuable information to my thread about comparing Drive Recorders in the Tech Shed.

Quite a bit of info in those threads and the group buy is in my sig.

You can't see it from the driver's seat.

Dont know what it is about bright red fabias but they seem to attract crap drivers. Mine has been bumped 4 times now n iv only had it a year. Two of them were wen my mum took it to work, one outside my house, and the other one was in a supermarket carpark where the woman just reversed out the spot and didnt stop until she eventually realised there was something stopping her going any further. Each time the car was parked up so u gota wonder why people cant seem to see it?!

@s_matt : that sucks ... at least it looks minor! :)

i know sucks right

cheers fella, i shouldnt think it will cost much to fix

If the worse happens, and you end up having to sort it... you could save a few pennies by getting hold of a red wing from a breakers.. Red's one of the more common colours so shouldn't be to difficult. Then it just bolts on, you could probably even do it yourself if ya handy with a spanner.

Sucks though mate, REALLY hope it goes your way and the other guy doesn't get away with it.. My friend had a completely fictitious claim against her a few weeks ago.. She contested it and apparently the other party just vanished.

Like you say, that damage couldn't have happened with the description of the accident and hopefully the insurance people will have seen it a million times before and know it was his fault, rather than yours...

Another Fabia driving friend got his back door reversed into as he was parking.. The other driver got out and said "No matter mate, just a nik".. to his car but not the fabia.. to which my mate says "Umm.. YOU backed into me" and the offending car says "Well, Yeah, I was in reverse but my hand brake was on????" Unfortunately my friend couldn't see the point in claiming so we'll see if it polishes out... He'll still have a nice lil crease though but it's bellow the rub strips luckily.

No one ever admits it's their fault, do they... Makes the whole thing a joke... I got rear ended and the lady admitted it on the spot, and even to her insurance who wrote me telling my it was her fault... THEN they claimed the bill was too large and it took 12months for them to pay up... so even when liability is correctly placed it can still take the p!ss...

Sorry, ranted a bit.

And it's getting more common... it's not going to get better either with the claim culture we now have.
