iPhone 4 help ...... avoiding mobile sites

Featured Replies

How on earth do i stop the iPhones web browser automatically redirecting me to mobile versions of sites.

For instance, i have tried to view the main facebook site through the safari browser but every time it automatically directs me to the crappy mobile site which is similar to the app. I want the main site FFS lol

Cant find anything in the settings.

Can anyone help?

They auto direct to mobile site for ease of use (I assume) but most websites have a little link at the bottom to 'view full webpage'. I have an iphone and this works fine for me. I have used the 'real' facebook many times, don't know why yours isn't letting you... I just tried googling 'facebook full site' from my iphone, that also works... :S

As above most sites have a "view full site" button at the bottom. Can be a pain sometimes

Well done that man.

It appears that if i google facebook full site it gives me a different link that does not redirect.

Thank you, that was easy! :)

There's a button on the bottom of most sites for whole site or full version :)

Looks likes someone beat me to it :)

Another option is to use a different browser. I sometimes use a browser called Mercury which can be set up to simulate being numerous desktop browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Desktop safari etc.... This means that the normal desktop sites are automatically displayed rather than the mobile versions.

It's not too bad at 59p or 69p or something like that.

Cheers

Dave.

Thanks for the tip about Mercury. It is now installed on my iPad 2 and I like it. :)

If it's jailbroken you can also install an app that lets you select the default browser so that things don't auto open in safari still... That way Mercury or whatever browser you use fully replaces Safari etc....

There's also another browser called iCab which is pretty much on a par with Mercury. Most reviews online give it the edge over Mercury but having tried them both i prefer Mercury as it seems slightly faster IMO.

Cheers

Dave.
