Are all silvers the same?

Featured Replies

Did they do more than one silver for the mk1?

Some retard has smashed my mirror :-(

Also, are all MK1 electric mirrors the same fitment?

I read some talk of them changing the motor at one point, but dont know if thats an issue or not. i.e fitting a 2001 mirror on a 2006.

They did two types of silver one is slightly darker than the other. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference on a wing mirror as its not directly next to another silver pannel. Ask the paint shop and they should be able to tell you

Thanks for that, at least I now know what to look for in the colour!

Diamond silver and what else?

I thought the vrs only came in Diamond Silver

There was a later update of diamond silver from memory - maybe not on the fabia mk1 though. The plugs/wiring is different on the vRS so better off trying to find a like for like replacement :)

Or buy a silver mirror and swap the guts possibly?

Mine is another variation with the amount of polish I have on! Lol 5c0cca57-dc05-ae0a.jpg5c0cca57-dc19-cb46.jpg

Thanks for all the replies, its a bit more confusing than I thought for getting the right one. I will ring the dealer today, see what extra special price they will give me.

Oh and wilsy7 - Your in the wrong thread mate if your wanting some sort of special prize for polishing. For the last 7 years I have 'detailed' prestige cars as a side job. When I got the daily Fabia a few months back I spent over 20 hours professionally polishing it, even under the front bumper etc. Its now covered in 4 layers of £170 Swissvax Best of Show. So bascailly some dark camera phone pics of a car that you say has polish on it (when polish is just for correcting the surface, it doesnt actually stay on or layer) arnt really going to cut it in the respect department. Good effort though :)

Just spoke to the dealer and its £140 for the full thing and painted.

Which to be fair I think is very reasonable

My car is also fully detailed :) I went for the menzerna polishes and completed a 3 stage correction using power finish, super finish and final finish, one of the latter phases was not required but I like going a little Ott Lol all applied using a rotary polisher :) paint sealed with two coats of jetseal 109 and finalised up with 2 coats of 476s for some extra depth and protection :) wheels also removed and stripped with megs apc and wheel brighter then sealed with 109, arches cleaned and dressed with aerospace 303 and calipers cleaned and sealed :) I too have spent some

Time cleaning my car :) more than 20 hours I'd say :) under bonnet all cleaned and dressed aswel as the slam panel and anything else that can be done lol all exterior plastics dressed with gtech permanent trim gel :)

As for the pics I'm no photographer so All pics are taking on my phone and I don't purposely take photos on the dark or just happens to be dark at the time lol

The fact the first photo is taken under cover when it's bright and sunny 30 yards behind you doesn't help either! emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I recently had to replace the door mirror on my girfriends VRS

It's a 2005 but a local scrappy had a complete unit from a 2001 comfort. Was the wrong colour but for £10 for the whole unit I went for it anyway.

The coloured plastic part removes pretty easily and I'm dropping it into a local bodyshop for colour matching (luckily he's painting a few panels on another black magic fabia so will throw the mirror casing in at the same time)

The wiring i found to be different, but i simply removed the plug from the broken mirror and joined this to the corresponding wiring on the replacement mirror (the colours are like-for-like). Ten minute job including removing the mirror (one bolt!), £10 for the mirror and a £10 for the bodyshop to paint it. :D

Thanks for that trigger fish lol

Here ya go ;)

Take this as constructive criticism…

The pictures are all in the shade and really do show nothing special. I’m not saying you haven’t done a really good job of the car, just that the pictures are really bad.

ANY car will look like that and will have that shine when you take pictures at specific angles. Even a dirty call will look like a mirror at a certain camera angle.

Taking a picture in the shade rather than direct sunlight is also a way of making something bad look amazing.

There's two there that aren't in either shade or direct sunlight but I know what you mean. Saying that those are the two things that show the car off so it's normal to exploit those lol

There was a batch of Audi A4's made in the mid 2000's where the bumpers were a different shade to the rest of the car!

I know this is bringing up an old thread but I have a 54 plate silver fabia, what paint code would it be? 1B1B?

... including the downloaded catalogue I stored on 2 February 2006.

It's still the same, since the bumpers are made and painted in a different place/factory. The shade is never 100% identical.
