Xenon Headlamps

Featured Replies

Browsing the Octavia brochure last night I noticed that the Octavia L & K (Laurin and Clement I think) has xenon headlamps. The vRS brochure also shows a red model with Xenons.

These lights are not available on the UK model vRS so I can only presume that the photo is of Euro spec (it is LHD aswell).

Does anyone know what needs to be done to convert to xenon lamps. Is it just a case of swapping the light units? How much are they???? :?:

Have a look under *Philips Vision Plus Bulbs* in Briskoda General

Tried this section but its more directed towards the bulbs. There is mention of the Xenon headlamp kit but I can't find prices or fitting guidelines on the autolamps site.

Any other suggestion anyone??

The limited edition skoda vRs come with xeon, I guess you could order the parts from Skoda. I'm not too sure of any electric changes behine the light packs.

There was a caution about the space but as the limited vRS has them I see no reason they would not fit.

I would estimate them to be >300gbp for the light packs.

You can get the lamp from JMH Butt for (I think)

Can anyone with good dealer contacts try and find this out? Ta. [/quote:1e5d685c8f]

Popping into my dealers tonight, will ask our friendly service manager..

Thanks everyone.

Looking at a couple of web sites, it seems that the xenon lights come with the power pack etc. as a complete unit .

Let us know how you get on at the dealers tavia

I'm pretty sure you'll find they'll draw the same if not less that 'normal' bulbs.

OK, do you want to do this properly and legally or do you just want the lights?

Either buy a new bumper with the headlamp washers in place or drill holes and fit headlamp washers (between

Because Xenon lights are gas discharge types (like neon lamps and streetlights) they have a high "Strike" voltage to light them. The power required to keep them running is lower than thet required to light them up. The problem in a car installation is that normal gas discharge lighting has a "warm-up" time of anything from a few seconds to several minutes. (think of sodium vapour streetlights). The units fitted to a car have some clever electronics to ensure fast startup. From memory, I think they're also legally required to be automatically self-levelling, and possibly have a self-cleaning mechanism, to avoid reflections from particles inside the housing.

Oh, and they're bloody good to drive with, too!
