Deposit on a new TV

Featured Replies

I have been playing about with the idea of replacing a 5yr old LCD TV in my office for a few months now, as it's one of the 'square 4.3 type things and not a widescreen.

Visited PC World, Curry's and Comet to see what makes were available and what specs I wanted.

I'm looking for a 32inch widescreen with built-in Freeview and saw a lovely LED Samsung with Freeview HD AND is 100Htz at a snip at £379.99.

I wanted to support my local independent retailer Hills Radio, as I had (over the past few months) purchased a Siemens dishwasher, Siemens tumble dryer, a Siemens washing machine, a 42inch Samsung LED TV and a Bosch fridge freezer.

I saw the same TV in their shop yesterday 13th at £449.99 and asked if they would be able to price match Comet's and they said test. RESULT :D

Went to Comet's this morning with Kitten to show her what I had chosen. I did this because I'm getting financial contributions from her and the rest of the family to buy it.

In Comets I noticed they have put the price up on the model I'mm getting from Hills Radio to the original price of £449.99.....................but I've got it at the price of £379.99 !!!!!

How lucky is that??? emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Result :D

Supporting your local retailer by forcing them to drop £80 profit (possibly even make a loss since the fact Comet put the price up afterwards suggests that maybe the wholesale price has gone up)? I like your thinking ;)

Supporting a local business is one thing, paying an extra 20% for the privilege is something else.

The indy will be making a profit otherwise he be stupid to sell it. He probably just marked it down to his January sale price any way.

Remember, that Dixons, is now solely online, is owned by / is the same group as currys & PCWorld, but sometimes, offers a large discount off the instore price - might be good to check out.

+ 1

Also a quick search on the internet of the model number may also show savings.

NEVER buy anything at face value unless you KNOW it's the best price.

Doubt that completely.

They will still make a tidy profit from selling me the TV at £379.99.

I've bought about £4000+ from the retailer over the past 2 years or so.

And nobody 'forced' them to drop their price.................I didn't hold a gun to his head did I??? emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

I seriously doubt any 'local' retailer will drop their price so much as to cost them money just to match another retailer. They will make some money without a doubt.

That's just what I said :giggle:

If you had, you'd have got it for nothing ;)

There does seem to be a world of difference between the 32" LCD Philips TV we have and the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display. The LED one is so much clearer and brighter and no ghosting around moving objects like the LCD suffers from. I can't justify changing the LCD until it dies though. Shame. I love watching films on the LED screen.

That's what attracted me to the LED and not the LCD when I saw them both at Comet's.

LED is just SOOOOO much brighter and more vibrant.

What's the model you've gone for?

The one I'm going for is the Samsung UE32D5520
