hello fogs i have a felicia Lx 1.3 with carb but after a long story now i have a hole in my engine's block from the radiator's grill and another hole at the opposite side due to the crank shaft got bent so it hit the engine sides making those holes whatever thats a long story so now i wanted to get the 1.3 mpi engine as a whole but the guys at the garage said it would need me to change all the electric wiring and i knew that and its ok with me but they said that i will have to change the fuel tank that didn't make sense to me why would change the fuel tank when switching from carb to mpi ?? i can guess but i need 2 be sure thanks ppl

I am assuming the Felicia carb setup is similar to the Favorit one (which in the UK was phased out in 1993 due to emissions legislation). The fuel pump is an electronic one inside the fuel tank on the SPI and MPI, but a mechanical one on the carb engine bolted to the front of the engine itself. I couldn't say for certain if these means the fuel tank itself is different or if you can simply drop the pump in.

You might well be able to use an SPI engine and bolt the fuel pump from the carb, the carb, and the distributor to it. I don't know for certain though, there might be some issue I hadn't considered making this not possible.

Yeah, you'd need to change everything over - the injection cars need a high pressure fuel supply whereas the non-injection ones don't. I don't know how the fuel pump is setup on a carb Felicia as I've never seen one. If the fuel pump on the carb engine is on the block (a mechanical one) then you'll have to make other arrangements if there's no hole to mount it to on the front of the MPi engine, or then convert the car to injection, and that would mean fitting a high pressure fuel pump. I -think- you may be able to fit the high pressure pump to the tank, but I'm sure that Jim will know far more about it.

You will also need to sort out immobiliser wiring etc to get the MPi ECU to run properly.

To be expedient, I'd probably stick with a carb setup and just change the engine over. If the current setup has a mechanical pump I'd fit an aftermarket electric low-pressure pump to feed the carb, it's the easiest way to get the car running; doing an MPi conversion would mean a fair bit more work (although would probably be a better car at the end of it).

Ok the carb tank will not accept an injection pump so you would need to swap to a MPI tank or buy a low pressure lift pump and a swirl pump and use a bosch inline injection pump.

Or if you just want to use the MPI block with the carb then you would need a low pressure lift pump (facet or similar) as darren says there is no mounting for the manual pump on the engine.
